Digital Voices in Awakening at the International Story Theater Festival, Alba Iulia, 2026

Text taken from LiterNet.ro | author: Adrian Țion

The licentious language on stage spreads and expands like ringworm on velvety skin. Speech is filled with viruses, artistic consciousness is filled with amazement. Seniors reject the insolence of language, they vehemently detest it, embarrassed, disgusted. Young people adopt it and use it as a form of rebellion against all dogmas and coercive norms. But to use this filthy language, which has become the norm of juvenile arrogance (also a norm in reverse!), to penetrate the universe of feelings and emotions of today's teenagers, seems to me an act of extreme courage, violent and aesthetically unapproved, which breaks the patterns of theatrical convention into enough disapproving fragments. Obviously, I denounced my age, but also the rigor as a norm (another norm!) of evaluating the theatrical act.

Petre Ghimbășan steps onto the stage, coming towards the audience. He walks around the empty frame/skeleton of the house that will keep shrinking throughout the show (scenography: Andreea Săndulescu) and looks at the spectators. Some don't even notice him. The lights in the hall are still on, the stage spotlights (lighting design: Cristian Niculescu) haven't entered their role yet. In fact, Petre Ghimbășan hasn't entered his role yet either. Only in a few moments will he gradually become Vania.

Regina Maria Theater reopens the doors of TRM Academy in 2026 – personal development program through theater

The Regina Maria Theatre is launching the second edition of TRM Academy, a program that grew naturally from the enthusiasm and very good feedback of the participants from the first edition. For many, it was more than a course, it was a space where they gained courage, experimented without pressure and discovered an authentic form of expression.

We continue in this direction and open the doors again for a new series of meetings where theater becomes a tool for personal exploration, not just performance. TRM Academy is about seeing yourself differently, hearing yourself more clearly, and allowing yourself to be present, without filters, in front of others.

Between May 15 – June 23, participants are invited to join one of the two modules of personal development courses through theater, coordinated by professional theater actors:

The Invasive Mr. Deepfake

Text taken from Family Magazine | author: Alexandru Jurcan

The snows of yesteryear are coming back, but the teenagers of yesteryear have dissipated in the labyrinth of inventions, taking advantage of scientific advances. Social networks, artificial intelligence. Goodbye, walks in nature, socializing under the sun! The virtual has won, like an evil drug. The reverse of focusing on the internet shows a pitiful tumble towards all kinds of dysfunctions. What does a necessary show mean, an explosive SOS? Exactly the premiere at the Regina Maria Theater in Oradea, that is awakening by Doru Vatavului, directed by Bobi Pricop. Assistant director: Mihai Gligan. A show dedicated to teenagers. Towards understanding, reorientation, awakening.

„"I never understood..." – a show inspired by the poetic universe of ANA BLANDIANA (by Elisabeta Pop)

Passionate poetry readers, two young actors – Anda Tămășanu and Ciprian Ciuciu – thought of bringing to the stage, with… dramatic means, some of Ana Blandiana’s poems, poems dedicated to her husband, the writer Romulus Rusan, on the ten years since his disappearance. A gift… Little said… some of the poems, because the script of the show sums up a generous poetic universe, the choice of poems bearing the imprint of the natural subjectivity of the performers. The two actors were joined by the literary secretaries Florina Dometi (coordinator), Ramona Nemeș (video) and the artist Khaleea/Alexandra Koszeghi (music). The videoart part is signed by Ciprian Ciuciu.

UNCLE VANYA

„"Uncle Vanya" tells us about how people move on, sometimes clumsily, sometimes with unexpected certainty, searching for meaning and a trace of love in days that seem to repeat themselves endlessly. A warm, deeply human and equally timely show, in which a smile appears exactly when you least expect it.

Revelations

Text taken from Várad Magazine | author: Fried Noémi Lujza

show „"The Awakening"” was presented on January 17 and 18 by the Iosif Vulcan Troupe of the Regina Maria Theater in Oradea. The production, directed by Bobi Pricop based on a contemporary text by Doru Vatavlui, was followed, each time, by discussions between the creators and the audience.

The show has a double cast, so at the Sunday performance we saw, actor Sorin Ionescu addressed the audience before the start, warning that the play's language is vulgar and contains many English expressions — exactly as teenagers speak today. However, during the show, there are also moments that are more shocking than the vulgarity...

PRESS RELEASE | Tenderness

The Iosif Vulcan troupe of the Regina Maria Theater announces the premiere of the show "Tenderness" by Alfredo Sanzol, directed by Mihai Gligan, which will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at the Transilvania Hall.

Playwright, director and current director of the National Dramatic Center in Spain, Alfredo Sanzol (b. 1972) is one of the most important contemporary authors of Spanish theater. His writings are distinguished by humor, stylistic inventiveness and a constant interest in exploring new dramatic structures.

The play "Tenderness", one of his best-known writings, was awarded the Valle-Inclán Theater Award in 2018 and was adapted into a film in 2023, directed by Vicente Villanueva.

Constructed as a romantic comedy with Shakespearean echoes, the play transforms the conflict between the sexes into a game full of humor and imagination. A queen with magical powers causes a shipwreck to save her daughters from the empire of men and retreats with them to a deserted island, determined to found a republic of women. However, the plan is turned upside down when she discovers that the island is already inhabited by three men (a father and his two sons) who have chosen isolation to avoid the suffering caused by love. Faced with this unexpected situation, the two camps are forced to rethink their beliefs, and the laws of attraction begin to work in unpredictable directions.

Beyond the satirical dimension, the show talks about the fragility of people in the face of love, about the need for closeness and about the imperfect but necessary possibility of reconciliation.

The show is directed by Mihai Gligan, a director from Cluj-Napoca, a graduate of the Faculty of Theatre and Film at UBB. His professional debut took place with the show "The Marriage" by NV Gogol, staged at the Baia Mare Municipal Theatre, a production awarded the Special Jury Prize for Direction and the Prize for Set Design at the Atelier International Theatre Festival (2022). "Tenderness" marks the director's second collaboration with the Regina Maria Theatre, after his participation as assistant director in the show "The Awakening" by Doru Vatavlui, directed by Bobi Pricop.

The adaptation of the text is done together with playwright Vlad Sălbatecu, the set design is by Előd Golicza, the costumes by Cristina Breteanu, and the sound universe is created by Richard Balint.

The cast includes the following actors:

Giorgiana Coman – Emerald Queen
Anca Sigmirean – Princess Salmon
Alina Leonte – Princess Ruby
David Constantinescu – The Brown Woodcutter
Eugen Neag – The Woodcutter Verdemarin
Pavel Sîrghi – The Blue Woodcutter

PRESS RELEASE | Cipi, the giant dwarf

The Arcadia troupe of the Regina Maria Theater in Oradea announces the premiere of the show "Cipi, the Giant Dwarf", which will take place on Sunday, March 8, at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall.

The show is directed by Iulian Bulancea, an artist with a solid background in animation theater, a graduate of the "George Enescu" University of Arts in Iași and the Université du Québec à Montréal, where he specialized in contemporary puppet theater. This is his fourth collaboration with the Arcadia Troupe, after the shows "The Snow Queen and the Enchanted Mirror", "The Curious Elephant" and "The Doctor Who Loves". The show's scenography is by Răzvan Chendrean.

The main role is played by Alexandru Crefelean, a graduate of the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș, specializing in Performing Arts - Puppets and Marionettes, actor of the Arcadia Troupe since 2024. The cast also includes actors Eliza Atofanei, Ștefana Tărniceru, Ioana Buta and Florian Silaghi.

The show is inspired by the book "Cipi, this giant dwarf" by Sándor Fodor, one of the most famous literary creations for children in the contemporary Transylvanian space. The stage adaptation proposes a formula in verse, with expressive puppets and a playful aesthetic, exploring themes such as self-acceptance, altruism and friendship.

The story follows Cipi, a dwarf convinced that the entire world in the dungeon works because of him. When he discovers that the universe can go on without his help, his desire to grow takes on unexpected proportions. With the help of Goliath dust, he becomes giant and reaches the starry sky, where, for the first time, he feels truly important. But loneliness makes him understand that true greatness does not lie in size or power, but in love and friendship.

The next performances are scheduled for March 13, at 6:00 PM, and March 28, at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall. The show will also have performances dedicated to kindergartens and schools.

Tickets for performances intended for the general public are available at the Regina Maria Theatre's theatrical agency and online, on the poftimcultura.ro platform (https://www.poftimcultura.ro/bilete?term=Cipi%2C+piticul+uria%C8%99).

PRESS RELEASE | Tanța and Costel

The "Iosif Vulcan" troupe of the Regina Maria Theater announces the premiere of the show Tanța și Costel by Ion Băieșu, directed by Sebastian Lupu, scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM, at the Transilvania Hall.

The cast consists of actors from the "Iosif Vulcan" troupe, Mirela Niță Lupu and Petre Ghimbășan. The creative team includes Sebastian Lupu, who directs the show, and Oana Cernea, who designs the set.

Inspired by the matrimonial advertisements of the time, the series of humorous sketches "Tanța și Costel" was a resounding success, becoming a benchmark of the Romanian comic couple, both on stage and on television. The show brings together, in the form of a scenic puzzle, a series of scenes that follow with humor and irony the conjugal life of the two, from the decision to get married to the conflicts, tense or deliciously comical situations of living together. Tanța and Costel are ordinary people, with flaws, clumsy language, desires and dreams, captured in a comic mirror that exaggerates traits and situations to reveal both the differences between the spouses and the love that, however flimsy, remains the essence of their relationship.

„"Dance is expansive and domineering, naive and snobbish, possessive, with a colorful language, full of clichés and its own logic, which arouses laughter by its inconsistency with reality. She is a symbol of the woman who tries to appear sophisticated, but who remains deeply anchored in the banal everyday life, representing the typology of the simple woman, from the city or the suburbs, intensely concerned with finding a husband and social norms." – Mirela Niță Lupu

„"With a delicious language, specific to those times, we present 5 charming moments from their lives. Despite the comical representation of the characters, the tragedy of ignorance shines through in the background, in which stupidity, lies, foolishness and selfishness reach their maximum levels. Although Băieșu outlined his characters from matrimonial ads 60 years ago, they are just as present in society today." – Petre Ghimbășan

I NEVER UNDERSTOOD HOW THE AIR FEELS THAT YOU'RE GONE

The show "„I never understood how the air feels when you're gone.”" is inspired by the poetic universe of Ana Blandiana and combines two central themes of her poetry: love and death, starting from the image of the couple. This is reincarnated in an androgynous form, then reduced to two, to finally dissolve into eternity and regain itself through poetry.
