The fourth premiere of the season: the comedy THE AUDITOR by NV Gogol

The Regina Maria Theatre announces the fourth premiere of the 2019/2020 season, The Inspector General by NV Gogol, directed by Petru Vutcărău. The premiere will take place on February 18 and 19, from 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol is one of the great names of world literature, distinguished as a realist writer and satirist alike. Gogol was marked in his quest by the need to break away from routine and comfort and to rise above the status of "a living being who lives only for the sake of living". He uses the language of comedy to express the tragedy of his time, and Gogol's laughter was inspired by Pushkin himself, Gogol stating: "If we are going to laugh, then laugh loudly, let us laugh at what really deserves to be ridiculed by everyone." The anecdote that underlies the comedy "The Inspector" is also inspired by Pushkin, Gogol's mastery being to render a satirical image of synthesis of the entire bourgeoisie of imperial Russia, through a small group of officials from a provincial town. The corrupt officials, led by the mayor, receive disturbing news: an inspector will arrive incognito in their town to carry out some investigations. The clique's activities risk being discovered, so each of those involved assumes their own corrupt deeds and tries to rectify them as best they can. In the midst of organizing the cover-up, they receive the news that a suspicious individual has arrived at the inn, who presents the characteristics of an inspector...

The play "The Inspector General" belongs to the category of texts whose contemporaneity does not deteriorate over time. The first performance took place on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, on April 19, 1836, and in 1842 an improved version appeared. In the almost two centuries since the premiere in St. Petersburg, the play has been staged hundreds of times and there have been versions for television, opera, dance and film. In Oradea, the show is mounted for the first time in the repertoire of the Iosif Vulcan troupe. The cast includes the following actors: Șerban Borda, Gabriela Codrea, Anca Sigmirean, Răzvan Vicoveanu, Alin Stanciu, Andrian Locovei, Alexandru Rusu, Sebastian Lupu, Sorin Ionescu, Pavel Sîrghi, Eugen Neag, Petre Ghimbășan, David Constantinescu, Lucia Rogoz, Ciprian Ciuciu, George Dometi, Carina Bunea, Maria Teișanu, Miruna Lazar, Giorgiana Coman, Calița Nantu, Daniela Purcărea, Ionuț Șerban, Igor Lungu. The show is directed by Petru Vutcărău.

An internationally renowned director, Petru Vutcărău has staged over a hundred shows both in the Republic of Moldova and in other countries such as: Italy, France, Romania, Russia, Japan or Turkey and has taught acting at various theater schools in France, Italy, Russia and Japan. He is an old friend of the theater in Oradea, since 1995, when he staged the shows "And what do we do with the cello" by Matei Vișniec and "Hey, good people" by William Saroyan, followed by "Women's Sex as a Battlefield in the Bosnian War" by Matei Vișniec, in 1999 and "Salon no. 6" by AP Chekhov and "Care pe care" by August Strinberg in 2006. He returns four years later, when he stages the play "The Murder of Gonzago" by Nedialko Yordanov. In 2018, when he began his work as artistic director at the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, he staged the show "Avalanșa" by Tuncer Cücenoğlu, which became one of the most appreciated productions of the season, winning an international award. The light design is by Gheorghiu Bogdan, the video creation is by Ioana Ilaș-Bodale, the choreography belongs to András Lóránt, the set design is by Adrian Damian, and the costumes are by Tatiana Popescu.

Spectators who want to see the premieres on February 18 and 19 still have very few tickets available. They are on sale at the theater's box office, on Vasile Alecsandri Street no. 8, or online at bilete.ro. Reservations can be made by calling: 0359 411 570.
