DJABE AND STEVE HACKETT AT THE QUEEN MARIA THEATRE
Djabe is the No. 1 world music/jazz-fusion band in Hungary. In the 16 years of activity so far, the group has been awarded countless awards at home and abroad. In total, Djabe has recorded 30 albums (including live material), the band's material being available on vinyl, CD or DVD. Being one of the most sought-after Hungarian bands, Djabe has performed with great success on 3 continents and in 41 countries. The Hungarian musicians have collaborated with a number of internationally renowned artists, who particularly appreciate the performances of Djabe.
Here are some testimonies in this regard:
- John Nugent (saxophonist from Rochester, New York, who has collaborated with Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett) – "This is one of the best fusion bands in the world!"
- Steve Hackett (original Genesis guitarist) – "The best band I've ever played with!"
- Ben Castle (saxophonist, also worked with Sting, George Michael and The Brand New Havies) – "Very good band. Excellent music"
- Malik Mansurov (musician from Azerbaijan, the best tar player, an ancient stringed instrument) – "The guys from Djabe introduced me to a completely new musical world. I am amazed by their professionalism. They are sensational individually, but together they manage to create absolutely special music."
Since 2007, Djabe has been touring with legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, a founding member of the British band Genesis. The musician, who previously worked with Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, has seamlessly integrated himself into the unique musical world of Djabe. Together, they have recorded several albums and performed on stages in Europe and Asia in front of thousands of music lovers. And in Romania, Djabe and Steve Hackett performed at the Gărâna Jazz Festival for 13,000 spectators. Djabe's show with Steve is something special even in the unique world of the band in Hungary. The British guitarist organically integrates into Djabe's compositions, and the band takes on the songs from the Genesis repertoire and those composed by Hackett very easily and with credibility. The group has had surprises for each tour. Some songs from the repertoire: City of Habi, Dark Soup and Distant Dance – Djabe, Firth of Fifth or In that Quiet Earth – Genesis, respectively Ace of Wands, The Steppes and Last train to Istanbul – Steve Hackett.
