CHIPI, THE GIANT DWARF

Greatness hides in a pure heart!

The show "Chipi, the Giant Dwarf" is inspired by the book "Chipi, this giant dwarf" by Sándor Fodor, one of the most famous literary creations for children from the contemporary Transylvanian space. The stage adaptation proposes a formula in verse, with expressive puppets and a playful aesthetic, exploring themes such as self-acceptance, altruism and friendship.

Cipi is a dwarf convinced that the entire world in the forest works because of him. He wakes everyone up every morning, explains to the bees how to make honey and tells the birds how to sing. Because they love him, the others allow him to believe that the little forest could not exist without him. But Cipi is not enough. His greatest desire is to grow, to be taller and stronger. When he discovers that the world is moving forward even without his help, his determination to be great becomes even stronger.

With the help of the mysterious Goliath dust, he reaches the starry sky, where, for the first time, he feels truly important. But up there, lost among the planets, he also discovers what loneliness means. This is how he understands a wonderful truth: greatness does not lie in size or power, but in love and friendship. But the adventure does not stop there. Cipi now has a new challenge: will he manage to become a dwarf again and return home?

The human breath of technological adolescence – Awakening

Text taken from LiterNet.ro | author: Cristina Smadea

To wake up... means to wake up from a night or day sleep, from a dream, from an illusion, from a state of laziness, from drunkenness, to understand what is happening around you or with you, opening the eyes of the body, mind, and soul.

We, humans, are dreamers by nature, consciously and unconsciously, and dreams are, very often, the result of our more or less hidden thoughts, of desires crammed into a pocket of the heart or a drawer of the mind. What separates us from animals is precisely this awakening, as an understanding of the meaning of the word MAN, and the result of this understanding is respect and love for your fellow human beings. Otherwise, we become beasts.

Soul fragments

Text taken from Várad Magazine | author: Fried Noémi Lujza

It is clear that director Timofey Kulyabin, playwright Roman Dolzhansky and set designer Oleg Golovko have substantially intervened on Arthur Miller's drama "Broken Glass", and the music composed by Timofei Pastukhov proves excellent for maintaining high tension even during the short transitions between scenes. The connection between the Russian creators in European exile due to their anti-war positions and the Regina Maria Theater in Oradea was made by Raluca Rădulescu, the translator of the play. The result of the collaboration, the performance "Broken Mirror" by the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, was presented to the public for the first time on November 16, on the main stage of the Oradea theater. In fact, the American playwright's play was translated into Hungarian by Tamás Ungvári under the title "Üvegcserepek".

HOW THE OTHER HALF LOVES

The domestic comfort of two couples is disrupted by a petty suspicion and a hastily improvised alibi. The lie, told to save face, quickly gets out of control and draws a third couple, completely strangers to the conflict in which they find themselves caught, into an absurd game.

The situation reaches its climax in a common space, where the characters end up sharing the same table and the same decor, but without sharing the same reality. Each couple lives their own version of the truth, and the overlapping of these parallel realities generates an irresistible comic tension and constant suspense.

How the other half loves is a sparkling comedy about the erosion of relationships, poor communication and the often ridiculous efforts we make to maintain an impeccable image of married life. With a subtle British humor and a dizzying pace, the show invites the audience to look, as if through a keyhole, at a domestic disaster constructed with precision and irony.

TENDERNESS

A queen with magical powers makes an extraordinary plan to save her daughters from the empire of men: she causes a shipwreck and retreats with them to a deserted island to build a republic of women, at the cost of sinking an entire army. But there they get a huge surprise when they discover that the island is already inhabited by three men, a father with his two sons, who have isolated themselves to protect themselves from the suffering caused by women. Faced with this new reality and disappointed that their plans have failed, the queen and the boys' father must find new saving solutions. But the laws of attraction have their own plans.

„"Tenderness"”, by Alfredo Sanzol, is a romantic comedy with echoes of Shakespearean opera, which transforms the "war of the sexes" into a humorous game. Beyond satires on patriarchy, resentment and the desire for control, the show speaks of the fragility of people in the face of love and the imperfect but necessary possibility of reconciliation.

DANCE AND COSTEL

Inspired by the matrimonial advertisements of the time, the series of humorous sketches "Tanța și Costel" was a resounding success, becoming a benchmark of the Romanian comic couple, both on stage and on television. The show brings together, in the form of a scenic puzzle, a series of scenes that follow with humor and irony the conjugal life of the two, from the decision to get married to the conflicts, tense or deliciously comical situations of living together. Tanța and Costel are ordinary people, with flaws, clumsy language, desires and dreams, captured in a comic mirror that exaggerates traits and situations to reveal both the differences between the spouses and the love that, however flimsy, remains the essence of their relationship.

Welcome Chronicle – THE AWAKENING. Technology and Adolescent Fears on the Stage of the Regina Maria Theatre

The "Iosif Vulcan" troupe of the Regina Maria Theater starts the new year with a project dedicated to teenagers, which will premiere on January 17 and 18, at the Great Hall: awakening by Doru Vatavlui, directed by Bobi Pricop. The show features teenagers and actors from the band "Iosif Vulcan" and brings to the forefront a topic that is still partially in the taboo area of public debate: deepfakes and bullying among teenagers.

The Regina Maria Theatre's approach to constantly welcoming young spectators from high schools and gymnasiums continues in 2026 through reading performances in schools, stagings of texts from the school curriculum, and by including in the repertoire productions that address pressing themes for this age group. awakening is a natural part of this journey, proposing not just a show, but a framework for reflection on a digital reality that teenagers experience daily, often without real protective tools.

The Awakening follows the story of Amalia, a 16-year-old student at a prestigious high school, caught between the need for validation, the pressure to perform, and the invisible violence of the online environment. The announcement of her qualification for the national stage of the Romanian Olympiad sparks an avalanche of reactions, but not on the high school page, but in the unmoderated and uncontrollable parts of the internet – culminating in a compromising image that begins to circulate among her classmates and on the city's gossip pages.

THE GIFT FROM THE NEST

Christmas means something different to everyone: gifts, family, kindness, shared moments. But beyond all of this, lies its true meaning: the birth of the Savior, the one promised since ancient times and announced by the prophets, who came to earth to bring salvation and light to the world. A miracle that, even after thousands of years, still fills our universe with peace, hope and love.

Created with little ones in mind, but also suitable for parents, "The Gift from the Manger" is a puppet show built as an illustrated story full of candor, which follows, preserving the biblical truth, the story of the Nativity, starting from the Annunciation, to the Adoration of the Magi. The show reminds us of the true source of the magic of Christmas and brings the holy story closer to our souls, through the beauty of traditional Romanian carols.

PRESS RELEASE | Acclaimed director Timofei Kuliabin returns to Romania and stages "The Broken Mirror" at the Regina Maria Theater

The Iosif Vulcan troupe of the Regina Maria Theater announces the premiere of the show Broken mirror, a scenario of Roman Doljanski inspired by his work Arthur Miller, directed by one of the most important European directors of the moment, Timofey Kuliabin. The show will have its first performances on November 16 and 17, 2025, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall of the Regina Maria Theater, and the public interest is huge, with all tickets already sold.

Arthur Miller (October 17, 1915 – February 10, 2005) was an American playwright, who combined social consciousness with a deep concern for the inner lives of his characters, his main sources of inspiration being the Greek tragedians and the common man: I believe that the tragic feeling is evoked in us when we are in the presence of a character who is ready to give his life, if necessary, to ensure one thing: his sense of personal dignity. His writings brought him many honors throughout his life, including the Pulitzer Prize, seven Tony Awards, two Drama Critics Circle Awards, an Obie, an Olivier, the John F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Award.

„"Broken Glass" (a play that has never been translated into Romanian) explores the story of a New York couple caught between marital tensions and historical awareness. In the Oradea production, the text is staged by Roman Doljanski, a playwright of Russian origin and one of the most appreciated critics and theorists of European theater, established in Europe since 2022, where he exclusively works. Roman Doljanski transposed Arthur Miller's play into an updated stage form, which enters into dialogue with contemporary reality and the ethical dilemmas of the present: "„The title of another fabulous play by the great American playwright Arthur Miller, The Price, defines the central theme of the new production entitled „The Broken Mirror”. It is about the price that those around the protagonist must pay for her healing. Can the treatment be considered a success if one person heals at the expense of the well-being of another? Where is the limit beyond which healing turns into manipulation? There is no definitive answer to this question – neither from Arthur Miller, nor from the characters, nor from the creators of the show. The goal is to ask questions and invite the audience to formulate their own answer, Roman explains.

The show is directed by the acclaimed theater and opera director, Timofey Kuliabin, who has staged on the most important stages of Europe. A graduate of the Russian Theater Academy in Moscow (GITIS), Kuliabin joined, after completing his studies, the Academic Theater "Red Torch" in Novosibirsk, where, in 2015, at just 31 years old, he was appointed artistic director, becoming the youngest artistic director of a theater in Russia at that time. Until 2022, when he was forced to resign due to his explicitly anti-war position and chose the path of exile, he staged performances both in theaters in Russia and on important stages in the German space, which brought him recognition, confirming the strength and originality of his directorial vision. Since 2022, Timofey Kuliabin operates exclusively abroad, collaborating with theaters in Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, Estonia, Bulgaria. . In 2022, he signs an exceptional collaboration with John Malkovich for the show "In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields", staged at the Dailes Theater in Riga and subsequently presented on a tour in 12 countries. The collaboration with the Regina Maria Theater in Oradea is his second project in Romania, after "The Long Road to Night" by Eugene O'Neill staged at the "Radu Stanca" National Theater in Sibiu.

About the show he is staging in Oradea, director Timofei Kuliabin declares:

„This play can be considered a classic psychotherapeutic drama. In cinema and popular culture, especially in TV series, there are many successful examples of this genre – but in theater, almost none. The story of a doctor and his patient (or, as in this case, a female patient) almost always goes beyond the boundaries of medical practice, addressing a much wider range of problems – not only personal, but also social, historical and even philosophical. From the very beginning, we leave the audience free to know how the story will end. We do not turn Arthur Miller's narrative into a detective novel. We simply observe how events unfolded. We invite the audience to follow the nuances and deeply human character of the characters.”

The creative team also brings together other important names in contemporary theater: Timofei Pastuhov, the composer of the original music, and Oleg Golovko, the set designer who signs the visual universe of the show. The translation into Romanian belongs to him Ralucai Radulescu, translator, journalist and theatrical curator.

The cast of the show includes the actors Eugene Neag (Phillip Gellburg), Denisa Irina Vlad (Sylvia Gellburg), Razvan Vicoveanu (Dr. Harry Hyman), Anda Tamasanu (Jessica), Richard Balint (Robert Wilson) and Alexandru Rusu (Stanton Case).

The show is also scheduled for December 11 and 12, and tickets can be purchased from the theater agency (Piața Regele Ferdinand I, no. 6) and online on the Regina Maria Theater website and on the Poftim Cultură ticketing platform.

WHY THE FLOWER IS LEAVING – performative reading

A novelty in the repertoire of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe: the performative reading "Why the Vatman Frunză?"„

What does a performative reading mean? A theatrical event in which actors read the text, but do so with stage intent, with energy, rhythm, intonation, character relationships, and minimal stage movement, lights, sound, or projections. The emphasis is on performance and presence, not on complete mise-en-scène.
