Ramona Nemes: You return to the Regina Maria Theater after you have mounted Tartuffe in 2021. How do you feel you have evolved as a director since then and how do you now find the actors of the "Iosif Vulcan" Troupe a few years later?

Vlad Trifas (laughing): It's... quite complicated to talk about evolution mine. I just hope I didn't make a fool of myself, that's the only thing I wish for. I like to say about myself that I'm a seeker, a person who "explores" with the curiosity of a child. If we're going to talk about my evolution in one way or another, I can certainly say that the hole is bigger, I've started looking a little more, which I hope brings me a little more experience. But I'm just as curious, with just as many questions. I'm afraid of the moment when I answer all the questions, so from this point of view I think I'm the same, but with a greater baggage of experience.

Razvan Rocas: „"Things I Know to be True" is a text that comes from a dramaturgy that is perhaps less explored in our country: Australian dramaturgy. How did you arrive at this text? What do you find most appealing from a directorial point of view?
Vlad Balan: I was familiar with Andrew Bovell's playwriting. I saw a show in Ploiești a few days ago, When will the rain stop?; it was directed by Radu Afrim. I also saw a dissertation performance based on this text and, somehow, it stuck in my mind. Initially, in our discussions with Vichi (Victoria Balint – interim manager of the Regina Maria Theatre), we had another plan; we had to make a dramatization based on a novel. It was a complicated situation with the rights and in the end I ended up making other proposals. I remembered this text and said to myself to read it – I only had the impression of the dissertation performance I had seen. I read it and I know that it struck me from the first moment, I sent it to him and said „This is what I think it is!”. It was a perfect fit: and Bobi Pricop said „Yes, I support it” immediately – he already knew the text. I had great support in this sense and it seemed appropriate to me also because I have the feeling that it is a fairly classic text, in terms of structure, at the story level. It's a text that deals with this generation gap and does so with great wisdom, without passing judgment. It seems to me that we live in a moment where we are polarizing in two directions – conservative and progressive. Usually, that's what I look for: texts that position themselves in the gray area.

PRESS RELEASE | Things I Know to be True

The "Iosif Vulcan" troupe of the Regina Maria Theatre is preparing for the first premiere of the season, Things I Know to be True by Andrew Bovell, directed by Vlad Bălan, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 16 and 17, from 7:00 PM, at the Transilvania Hall.

The cast consists of actors from the Iosif Vulcan troupe Richard Balint, Corina Cernea, Denisa Irina Vlad, Eugene Neag, Cosmin Petrut and Giorgiana Coman.

I am part of the creative team Vlad Balan, Gabi Albu and Cristina Juncu, those from Impress Media dealing with video design.


We all need a safe space, where we know we can return when life doesn't go the way we wanted it to. A place of our own, where we can protect ourselves and where things remain intact, as we've always known them. But what happens when we find that personal shelter crumbling due to a weakness we didn't know about or chose to ignore?

Rosie, the youngest of the Price family, is on a trip through Europe on her gap year and is forced to return home to find her balance. Here, she is welcomed by the whole family and, for a moment, everything seems unchanged: the father, who takes care of the rose garden, the mother, who has a solution for everything, Ben, who can't seem to maintain a relationship, Mark, who has always been the more withdrawn brother and Pip, who seems to live a happy life with her husband and two children. However, this image is just an illusion that is about to disappear when the unspoken things between them come to the surface, and the relational balance that proves fragile is put to the test.

Things I Know to Be True explores the complicated family dynamics that hide behind them the sacrifices made by parents on behalf of their children, the pressure of expectations imposed on children, but also the urgent need for each one to express and defend their own truth. Beyond the intimate struggles between their own aspirations and disappointments, each family member is forced to manage the sudden and unexpected changes in the lives of others, the consequences of which cannot be healed by love alone.

Press release – Premiere of the show "D-ale carnavalului"

The Regina Maria Theatre announces the premiere of the show "D-ale carnavalului" by IL Caragiale, directed by Vlad Trifaș, who also signed the musical selection and the adaptation of the text. The set design is by Oana Cernea, and the lighting design is by Ionuț Aldea. The two premiere performances will take place on September 24 and 25, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

CARNIVAL DAYS

"Carnival's" brings to the stage Caragiale's unmistakable comedy, full of consuming passions, delicious intrigues and absurd situations. The hairdresser Nae Girimea juggles between Mița Baston and Didina Mazu, while their partners, Pampon and Crăcănel, jealous and ridiculous rivals, launch themselves into a veritable hunt for "Bibici". The love entanglements mix with gossip and small intrigues, so that everything culminates in a masked ball, where the absurdity and humor of the mistakes already triggered reach their peak.

His directorial vision Vlad Trifas but it goes beyond the simple comedy of situations and love entanglements. It brings to the fore the depth of the characters, through settings and interpretations that evoke an accentuated Balkan universe, which naturally merges with the irony and humor of Caragiale. The noblest feelings collide with the raw impulses of the slum, reason is suspended, and the characters abandon themselves to an unbridled pathos, which only people with an unbridled appetite for life can manifest with such naturalness.

The staging of the show D'ale carnavalului was born in a laboratory state, where the entire team explored Caragiale's deeply human humor. His typologies do not belong only to the past, but breathe around us, people who burn at high temperatures, ready to explode at any moment, because their world – like ours – always operates on the edge.
Carnival becomes the metaphor for this tense universe, where masks, appearances and intentional confusions create a permanent danger of explosion. The laughter that the show proposes is not only comical, but necessary: a mechanism of liberation and recognition in a reality where human fragility and ridicule inevitably coexist.

"Thumbelina" is a Music-Hall production, full of vitality and freshness, which brings to the fore, in a new, vivid and modern light, one of the most beloved classic titles for children.

Tiny and frail, a cute little girl is the gift of the Horse and the Good Fairy to a pure-hearted woman, whose only wish was to have a child. But the appearance of the little one arouses the anger of Cotoroanța, the Good Fairy's rival, who does not hesitate to use her dark powers to drive her away. Out of spite, Cotoroanța makes her own child, whom, despite her wickedness and cruelty, she loves and spoils without measure.

Thus, Thumbelina ends up traveling through unknown and dangerous places. Along the way, however, she discovers the value of true friendship, learns that the strength to overcome obstacles often lies within each person, that freedom brings both beauty and responsibility, and that the innocence of childhood can be an invaluable support on the path to adulthood.

Step 1

The Regina Maria Theater in Oradea is looking for a practical, responsible and detail-oriented person for the position of set assembler-setsman who will work within a technical team that assembles, installs and maintains sets for performances.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling and dismantling sets according to the sketches or instructions of the set designer;
  • Handling and transportation of decorative elements;
  • Assembling and fixing supporting structures; 
  • Maintenance of the sets while the show is playing;
  • Collaboration with the technical and artistic team.

Requirements:

  • Skill, attention to detail and technical sense;
  • Capacity for physical exertion and availability for flexible work schedules (including nights/weekends, if applicable);
  • Seriousness, punctuality and team spirit;
  • Experience in the field is an advantage; 
  • Minimal knowledge of using tools (drill, self-tapping screw, etc.);
  • Category B license – a plus. 

Requirements according to the position: 

  • Romanian citizen 
  • Secondary education
  • Work experience: minimum 6 years 
  • Individual employment contract for a fixed period with possibility of extension.
