Comet

by Justine del Corte
National premiere performance!
A comet, and under it – a happy newlywed couple. Around them – relaxed and happy people. A cheerful party in the countryside, in the shade of a tree. A scorching summer day, full of the desire for happiness.
Ten years after her wedding, Elisabeth wonders if happiness can be fixed and tries the following: she repeats the party. And since happiness is not very flexible from Elisabeth's point of view, the same guests, dressed the same, have to have the same discussions in the same places and thus result in… the same happiness. It is quite unclear whether a whole series of lies and infidelities that took place ten years ago are likely to serve the same purpose. It is difficult to determine, especially since the secrets are initially known only to those directly involved.
Each person's egocentrism is increasingly revealed, and with it, the characters gradually give up on the initial euphoria and success of the event. Increasingly drunk and uninhibited, the guests move more and more insistently towards what could be the achievement of their own happiness.
Director Radu-Alexandru Nica's mise-en-scène focuses on the idea of repeating a real event (the wedding of the two characters), compared to rehearsal in theater. This analogy provides a new perspective on the nature of theatrical performance through theater within theater and a questioning of the idea that art in general, but especially theater art, has the ability to immortalize the ephemeral.
