Fiddler on the Roof returns to the Regina Maria Theatre stage

The Regina Maria Theatre is pleased to announce the return to the theatre stage, after a two-year absence, of one of the most beloved shows of the last seasons: "Fiddler on the Roof", a musical by Joseph Stein based on the stories of Sholom Alecheim, directed by György Korcsmáros. The first performance will take place on Sunday, April 2, at 7:00 PM, in the Great Hall.

„"Fiddler on the Roof" is one of the most acclaimed classic musicals, having been a resounding success on Broadway. The premiere of the first production on the New York stage, winner of nine Tony Awards, took place in 1964 and for 10 years held the title of the first musical in the history of the theater to exceed 3,000 performances. Its popularity is also due to the film adaptation of the opera, which won three Oscars.

Through its humanitarian message, humor and sensitivity, "Fiddler on the Roof" has become a universal cultural landmark. The text is built around the unpretentious life of Tevye, a Jewish villager from Anatevka, father of five daughters, who tries to keep his family united by respecting Jewish tradition. The action is set at the beginning of the 20th century, in Imperial Russia, when the pogrom threatens to destabilize Jewish communities, and the hostile attitude is also felt in the Jewish community of Anatevka. The villagers, by a decision of the Tsarist authorities, are forced to leave their birthplaces and embark on a wandering journey whose end is impossible to predict.

The narrative thus follows two distinct and intertwining planes: a close-up of the Jewish community, in which the differences in mentality between the traditionalist elderly and the young who are moving away from the old values begin to be felt, and a general plane, in which a tragic historical event is denounced: that of the pogrom.

„"Fiddler on the Roof" premiered in Oradea in 2011 and is directed by György Korcsmáros, a Hungarian director famous especially for the musicals he has staged throughout his career. The production was a resounding success from the beginning, impressing both with the emotion of the story itself and the scale of the project: a multifaceted cast, imposing sets, complex choreography, live orchestra and authentic costumes.

The favorable reception of the Oradea musical was also reflected in the nominations and awards it received. In 2012, the show was rewarded with two nominations at the UNITER Awards Gala – Ioana Dragoş Gajdo (the role of Golde) for best supporting actress and Vioara Bara for best set design. Richard Balint (Tevye) received the special jury award at the "Atelier" Festival in 2012, along with a nomination for best actor in a leading role, and András Loránd received the award for best choreography.

Tickets are on sale at the Theatre Ticket Agency from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 and 19:00, and on weekends between 10:00 and 13:00. You can also purchase tickets one hour before the show or online at www.biletmaster.roFor additional information and ticket reservations, please call: 0259/440.742.
