Queen Marie Theater Oradea

Actress

Date and place of birth: 23.04.1972, Tulcea

Studies: "Babeş-Bolyai" University Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of Philology, Department of Theater, 1995

Monalisa Basarab made her debut, in fact, in Oradea, in the graduation exam performance "D'ale carnavalului" by ILCaragiale, directed by the distinguished professor Sorana Coroamă (Faculty of Philology, Theatre Department in Cluj-Napoca). She brilliantly interpreted the character of Didina Mazu. She made a successful contre-emploi, being very fine, slender and of striking beauty. There was nothing vulgar about her character, Sorana Coroamă relied on completely different character traits and charm of the character.

In Oradea, during the two or three years she was employed, she played several characters that, as they say, "fit her perfectly", but which did not contribute decisively to her "growth", to her professional development. Ana in the play "Tache, Ianke and Cadâr" by VIPopa, several chlorotic characters of about the same caliber in plays without relief (Carinus in "Pseudolus" by Plaut, Fanula in "The Trial for the Umbra of a Donkey" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, the Girl in the House in "Ivan Turbincă" after Creangă) and several others, of about the same category. A professional progress was observed in approaching the roles of Tilica in the play "Răceala" by Marin Sorescu, and, especially in that of Clara in the play "Dacă dragoste nu e...", dramatized by Eugen Ţugulea and Elena Preda, based on the novel "Cel mai iubit dintre pâmânteni" by Marin Preda. With more careful guidance and more careful casting, the actress would have had a serious chance of becoming, with her angelic face, a star. She wasn't to be. At least not in Oradea.
