Comedy in three acts by Al. Kiriţescu

Artistic direction: Sergiu Savin
Decor: Tatiana Manolescu Uleu
Costumes: Eliza Popescu
Premiere date: March 15, 1975

Affiliated with political theater, the comedy "The Dictator" was inspired by the realities of the Antonescu regime, the main character embodying the general attributes of an absolutist, harsh, demagogue and skillful leader, directing a socio-political system inappropriate to the historical moment. Going through corruption and baseness, the hero, vaguely called "Prime Minister", even reaches murder, but hides under the mask of humanism, sympathy, understanding of one's neighbor. Despite the negative ideological charge, the end of the play transmits an optimistic message, regarding the imminent disappearance of dictatorship and oppression, a line from the main character foreshadowing the tragic end: "It's like I'm the one sentenced to death waiting to be shot!"„
