FRENCH TEACHER*

The twelfth grade students, excited and eager to have fun, experience, in addition to the excitement caused by the imminent baccalaureate exam, tensions sparked by the appearance of the new French teacher, "cool, young, dark-haired, tall...", in whom the girls discover an adonis, and the boys a rival.

This novelty gives rise to conflict situations, for the smoothing of which it is necessary to intervene even the headmistress, whose interest is also directed towards the young teacher. The naivety from which the misunderstandings erupt creates the comic of the situation, making up an original, cheerful and lively show.

Both the events themselves and the way they are staged, clothe the show in a cloak of universality, making it accessible to spectators, who, regardless of age, will easily manage to identify or empathize with any of the characters.

IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE MACBETH EPISODE

Macbeth episode – obsession with power

THE MACBETH EPISODE concludes the IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT trilogy, after THE HAMLET EPISODE and THE LEAR EPISODE.

Only the essential lines, the key lines, have been preserved from the Shakespearean text. The missing text is replaced with physical actions that the play assumes or allows to be imagined. The connections between some sequences, as well as the analysis of some important elements for this project belong to George Banu and Monique Borie.

We follow two people, Mr. and Mrs. Macbeth, on a path of no return to self-destruction. Projections of these souls tormented by guilty aspirations take fabulous forms. Thus, the witches are seen as vehicles of older hidden aspirations, substitutes for desires that return obsessively.

We make theater in the middle of the night out of fear of the Night itself. And, at the same time, out of the desire to forget the wanderings of the day. We play to save ourselves! By night, by day. Always and forever at the crossroads… as George Banu says.

ENIGMATIC VARIATIONS

A professional meeting between two intelligent men, Nobel Prize-winning writer Abel Znorko (Sebastian Lupu) and journalist Erik Larsen (Petre Ghimbăşan), suddenly turns into a thrilling game of verbal chess. Strong and dominant personalities, both men play their game, alternating the pole of power depending on the move the other makes, the meeting thus entering a winding labyrinth, refined and animated by a perfect science of suspense.

The show is directed by Elvira Rîmbu, an actress at the Regina Maria Theatre, who also directed the production of "A Very Simple Story"; two remarkable actors meet on stage, who have always formed a strong and effervescent duo, managing to surprise through the fine and ingenious nuances with which they build each character; the set design, complex and complementary, is created by Oana Cernea, an artistic equation that can only lead to the birth of a surprising and original show.

THE ART OF ADULTERY

Lying is within everyone's reach, but only a few manage to turn the process of falsifying the truth into a science. The ability to make the other person fall into the carefully woven net of carefully chosen statements and charming behavior can truly become an art.

The adulterous relationship between Jean François, a film director, and his mistress, Nathalie, is about to be discovered by his wife, and the efforts the two lovers make to create the image of a situation that will not arouse suspicion go beyond the limits of normal. Jean François is forced to put his directorial skills into practice and create a space suitable for the falsification of the truth.

CHOKING (DIARY OF A CHRONIC SUICIDE)*

Meet Victor Mancini: a young man in his thirties searching for his own identity. A former medical student, Victor dropped out of college to care for his ailing mother.

He now works at a theme park with his friend Danny. They know each other from the sex addicts' meetings, which he attends more to find new partners than to try to control his sexual impulses. However, the money he earns does not cover the monthly amount he has to pay to the sanatorium where his mother is admitted.

Motivated by this situation, he begins to supplement his income by defrauding, through an ingenious trick, the customers of luxury restaurants. All these people, unaware of each other's existence, end up contributing to the unusual existence of an individual who manipulates them from a distance: this Victor, whose defective childhood materializes in a deranged adult, who searches for himself by trying to wrest coherent information from his demented mother.

Beyond the obvious limits of his morality, Victor hides a heightened thirst for love, to quench which he resorts to extreme and unconventional methods. Choking under the gaze of others represents the need for attention, but especially the desire to feel that there is someone who cares, for whom he, the defect, matters even for a few seconds, even at the cost of his life.

IN FULL GLORY!

IN FULL GLORY! is a comedy inspired by the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, known in history as the worst opera soloist in the world, for which reason she is also given the ironic title of "First Lady of the Glissando". Passionate about music to the point of pathos, she manages, despite the irony of some and the ridiculousness of her desire, to hold opera concerts with full houses. The peak of her career is the recital on the stage of one of the most prestigious concert halls in New York: Carnegie Hall. Her success would not have been possible, however, without the financial resources she has and without the support of some devoted friends.

An extraordinary show, in which the border between courage and naivety disappears. A character willing to give up everything to fulfill his dream. A humorous story, which paradoxically made history, managing to inspire even today.

MR. JORDAN

Mr. Jurdan, an emphatic and naive spirit, is an extremely rich man, but who lacks something: the elegance of a person from high society. So, to be part of the high-class, he dresses according to the trends of the time, extravagantly decorates his house, makes "high-ranking" friends and hires an army of teachers to teach him the manners of a person of rank. However, the result of this whole equation cannot be other than a downright hilarious one. Ridiculous beyond measure, Mr. Jurdan goes from (pretending to be) noble, to the "court jester".

And when ignorance meets the pretense of erudition, everything turns into a comedy that will have you laughing out loud for minutes. A comedy of our times, which reflects the slippage of the opulence of some enriched people.

The action takes place in Romania, in Jurdan's house.

Meditating on… Letter III

The Regina Maria Theater has the honor of inviting you to the cultural event that marks 168 years since the birth of the poet with lyrical genius, Mihai Eminescu.

The one who will guide our steps through Eminescu's poetic universe is the actor Eugen Țugulea, who, through his extraordinary appreciation and love for the genius who loves literature and country, manages almost every year to bring his work to the attention of both theater, poetry and culture lovers, as well as the general public.

The lyrical journey will be harmoniously accompanied by the graceful voices of the soloists of the Crișana Professional Artistic Ensemble (Felicia Costin, Otilia Haragoş Seghedi and Cornelia Covaciu) and by the sounds created by Henrietta Varady's keyboard.

HUT**

Mare and Mic are two Frenchmen who do not have many professional prospects and decide to create homemade bombs in pressure cookers. Their initiative, apparently without much chance of success, turns into a real business as the experiments bear fruit and a few reliable partners join them. They create relationships with the Islamic world and benefit from the tacit support of the French authorities. In order to camouflage the illegal bomb-making laboratory, they set up a shop in front of the factory to sell gas masks, which becomes, paradoxically and absolutely ironically, the main supplier of the Ministry of Health.

Describing this den of grand banditry, "The Shack" sheds light, with a wry sense of humor, on one of the biggest problems of today's society: terrorist attacks fueled by the compromises of politicians, the duplicity of major markets, the backstage games, and the vileness of people who let themselves be seduced by the power of money.

And the ministers are walking crookedly

A delicious comedy of complications, "And the Ministers Walk Awkwardly" unfolds in an extremely sustained dramatic rhythm a multitude of problems resulting from the amorous adventures of the main characters. A minister, the right-hand man of the prime minister, is late from a government meeting in which the budget will be discussed, for an affair with the opposition secretary, in a hotel room. The successive appearances of the minister's wife, the secretary, the mistress's husband, the nurse, the returns of the waiter and the hotel manager, driven crazy by the agitation and equivocal gestures of the room's inhabitants, culminate in the appearance of a Dead Man who is not as stiff as he seems. The events take on tragicomic dimensions, we burst out laughing at almost every line, and in the end we even witness a wedding carried out in the most perfect burlesque register.

ISABELA, THREE CARAVELS AND A LIE SEA

„"Isabela, Three Caravels and a Great Liar" is a two-act comedy, set in the 16th century, which starts from the story of an actor sentenced to death for daring to perform a banned opera by Fernando de Rojas. On the scaffold, he is offered the chance to perform one last performance, a chance behind which hovers the hope that in the meantime he will be pardoned.

The theater-in-theater performance is built on the structure of real facts, around a dominant historical figure, Christopher Columbus, starting with the first meeting with Isabella of Castile, up to the personal failure experienced after the fourth expedition. All these facts of true historical importance are, however, rewritten in a parodic manner, from which, incidentally, the humor is born. A slightly subversive humor, as Dario Fo himself admits:

„"I wanted to attack those Italian intellectuals who discovered its power and advantages and jumped on it like rats on a piece of cheese. I wanted to demystify a character who was embalmed as a hero in school history books, while he was, in fact, an intellectual who tried to stay afloat within the mechanisms of power, resorting to cunning to deal with figures of power, but who ended up being damaged."”

THE LITTLE PRINCE

"The Little Prince" is one of the most famous and beloved literary works, having been translated into more than 250 languages and dialects and adapted to numerous other art forms, including theater. However, the charm that Saint-Exupéry's story exerts on readers does not only transcend linguistic and artistic boundaries, but also a much more significant one on a human level: age. Thus, the adventures of the little boy who wanders the galaxy to discover what love, friendship, loneliness and death mean can be enjoyed equally by both innocent children and adults, even if they always need clarification.

Director Marius Costache managed to recreate the enchanting universe of the story on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater, preserving the specific candor, but also the deeply philosophical side of the opera. The show, therefore, is addressed not only to middle school children, but also to teenagers who are just stepping into another dimension, that of mature people and even adults, who live alone on their own planets and are always absorbed by such trivial things.

DADA CABARETTE*

Piece The theater play "Cabaretul Dada" captures the turbulent atmosphere of the 20th century, the period in which the Dada artistic movement was born as a reaction against the first world war, delving into the political side of Dadaism in particular: I was inspired to write this piece because I was almost more interested in political Dadaism than in literary-artistic Dadaism […]
My play is both an investigation into a mysterious concept and an attempt to demonstrate that Dadaism extended into the communist adventure. The fact that Lenin lived in Zurich, on the very same street as the Cabaret Voltaire and in the very weeks when the Dada movement was born, is an immense irony of history. The French writer Dominique Noguez dedicated an entire book to this "coincidence" and I confess that I drew heavily on his assumptions when placing Lenin in my play. Yes, I believe that Lenin, without wanting to, was a Dadaist. Perhaps he picked up an irreversible virus from the Cabaret Voltaire, where he was apparently seen at least once, which he then transmitted to the entire family of revolutionaries, so that, in the end, everything turned out wrong for these people (and with a hundred million deaths as the human price of their experience).

"Let's not be sad, though. My play is a comedy about a tragic century. Dadaist laughter seems to me to be a tool for understanding how history advances (one step forward, two steps back) as well as the manner in which man approaches and moves away from what he really should be." (Matei Vişniec)

show bears the directorial signature of Oradea's Anca Bradu and proposes an absolutely spectacular concept, in which the world of cabaret, war and revolution are theatrically combined on Dada rhythms and rhymes. The war and terror sparked in the era by paradigm shifts (both social and cultural) are captured in a tragicomic and dynamic tone. The show will have two opposite effects on the audience: amusement through music, dance, masks, the absurdity of the situations, but also awareness of the consequences that the First World War had on every aspect of humanity.

THE MAN FROM LA MANCHA

The Man of La Mancha, based on Cervantes' 17th-century epic novel (Don Quixote), is a musical remarkable, moving and disturbing at the same time, being one of the first shows to highlight a literary work of such magnitude.

The original production, written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, ran on Broadway from 1965 for over 2,300 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has since been revived four more times on Broadway, making it one of the longest-running productions of its kind.

2015 is an important year in the history of this musical, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the first performance of the show. It has been adapted and performed in countries such as France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Chile, Russia, Hungary, etc., but also in Romania – in the production of the National Theatre Bucharest (in 2001, directed by Ion Cojar) and at the National Theatre "Marin Sorescu" in Craiova (in 2008, with Tudor Gheorghe in the role of Don Quixote).

We will all become part of the story of the old Alonso Quijana, who believes himself to be a knight-errant, by his name Don Quixote de la Mancha, a man in search of a dream to fulfill. Despite all the hardships, Don Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, set out on a journey that will lead them in search of chivalry, truth and purity in a world that seems dominated by despair and sin.

DEER KING

The play "The Stag King" revolves around the image of King Deramo, who is convinced by Prime Minister Tartaglia that he must marry in order to leave an heir to the throne. To this end, he organizes a series of meetings with girls from all over the kingdom, regardless of their social status. With the help of magic tricks, he manages to find his chosen one. However, this is not a happy ending, but the very beginning of a series of increasingly bizarre entanglements.

The Oradea show will keep the thread of the classic story, but under the careful guidance of director Alexandru Colpacci, Carlo Gozzi's theatrical fairy tale metamorphoses into a unique story, which ingeniously combines classical thinking with contemporary elements. Magic, science, technology, love stories, political intrigues, miraculous transformations, all of these will meet on the same plane: the theater stage, to recreate a mythical and fascinating world, with comic and dramatic nuances at the same time.

András Forgách's play is the tragicomic story of the end of childhood. Two brothers – very similar to Shakespearean clowns – feel that things must have an end, a release. A slightly comical and, therefore, imposing humanity emanates from the two brothers, two people, two of our contemporaries, torn and embittered. Although Forgách's discourse is built on the human derisory, the result is, in fact, a captivating testimony of trust in the dignity of the human condition.
