Queen Marie Theater Oradea

by Victor Eftimiu
National premiere

„In the life of a theater, the success of a premiere is determined by the very moment of the choice of repertoire. […] The virtues of Victor Eftimiu’s text, well interpreted by the acting team, allowed for the quick establishment of a warm contact with spectators of all ages. […]

«"Pui de om" is a debate, with the means of scenic art, on the meaning of authority in the state, withering, through a folk-esque fable, the imperial palace and the camarilla, torn from the country. The main hero, from the typological family of Făt-Frumos, is the trustee of a centuries-old popular experience, in which honesty, courage, justice, sincerity have earned their rightful place. Director Petru Diaconu, emphasized in the acting interpretation precisely the moments in which the ethical meaning of the lines gains relief, giving warmth to the transmission of a message that could have fallen into didacticism, thus realizing in an uplifting sense the educational content of the staging. […]

The play offered an excellent score to the main character, played by Matilda Vitcu at the right height, according to her acting abilities. A generous text also included the role of the Dragon (loan Moldovan) and, especially, of the Tick, supported with virtuosity by Mioara Diaconu. A substantial contribution, adequate to the specific requirements of the play, to the success of the show was also brought by the other performers: Isabella Dombora (Old Woman – Fairy), Aurelia Laurian (Buna), Rodica Schuller (Announcer), Michaela Nestorescu (Soricel), Simion Tomescu (Emperor) – with an extra note for the grotesque realization of the character, Constantin Miscolczi (Baciul şi Turcul). […]

We recall, regarding the recent premiere, the adequate contribution of the scenography (Paul Fux) and the musical illustration (P. Diaconu – I. Moldovan), sensibly extending the suggestions of the play. So – a well-chosen and well-thought-out show […].” (Titu Popescu, Crisana, (December 12, 1967)

„"In the rather poor landscape of original puppet dramaturgy, unfairly bypassed by some more experienced writers, a well-known and respected name, not only in dramatic literature for young people and children, now appears: Victor Eftimiu. What prompted our esteemed playwright to take this step only now is a question we will not discuss, but we can express our gratitude for the gift given to the youngest generation of spectators who are also thirsty to sip from the precious treasures of stage art - created especially for them. And at the same time, let us also properly appreciate those who signed the stage "baptism act" of "Puiul de om": the creators and management of the Puppet Theatre of Oradea..." (Eugen Tugulea, Family,(January 1968)

„… the theater (and the spectators) can thank Victor Eftimiu for the beautiful score he provided, just as the author did, in turn, to the creators of his first play (let's hope there will be others to follow) written for puppets.” (Eugen Ţugulea, Family, (January 1968)
