Queen Marie Theater Oradea

The first puppet version of the opera "Puss in Boots" by Master Cornel Trăilescu

On a holiday for the hosts, in their weft, a motley group of artists came to delight their offspring, but also us. They will tell with humor, more singing than speaking, the plight of a little boy, Ionică... and his friend, the much, much more famous cat, called Cotoşman.

The clown cart is unloaded in front of the ad-hoc spectators…and the artists take out their costumes, props and puppets…to act out, as per the book, the story of the Cat Who Got a Voice. The cat, newly shod in red boots, starts singing, with a voice that is, to be honest, more meowing and thin, because it is a soprano voice, like in opera, not like in drama!

When four "four brave" hunters sent by the emperor to catch the white rabbit, come face to face with the "stupid cat", a good opportunity arises for the Puss in Boots and his master to reach the palace. The shy Ionică, anointed Voivode Ionică of Carambas-Bambas-Strambas by Cotoşman, pushed from behind by him, will send the "white rabbit" as a gift to the princess, as an engagement gift.

From here on, things go downhill, just as Cotoşman planned them. Two thieves on the highway will be put on the run; a great ruler, a tyrant, will be bitterly punished, also by the cat; a slave from prison will reach the sun again; and the eternally frightened Emperor will calm down after a Great Giant, with the mind of a mouse, will be devoured... of course, by Puss in Boots!

Like any holiday, this one will end, how? A wedding is the most appropriate, and the pair of lovers, the bride and groom: Domniţa and Ionică, are also appropriate. The great godfather, much praised and applauded, will be, as you guessed, "Puss in Boots"!
