Typical of the fairy tale, the character Stan Bolovan goes through a series of fabulous, fantastic adventures, and is put to the test through several memorable trials. In this story, as in many folk tales, it is highlighted how cleverness and daring can compensate for and even surpass the physical strength and incredible abilities of supernatural beings.

Stan Bolovan seems to be a cross between the famous Păcală and a typical Prince Charming from Romanian legends.
