THE SELFISH GIANT

screenplay by Ciprian Huțanu, based on the story by Oscar Wilde

The story "The Selfish Giant" was published in 1888 in the volume "The Happy Prince and Other Stories" by the author Oscar Wilde. Over time, the story has been read in many ways, with the religious interpretation being predominant. But regardless of the vision attributed to the story, the dominant themes remain love and redemption.

The Giant's garden is like a magnet for children eager to play. They run, they jump, they climb trees... in short, there's a lot of noise! But he is always bothered by the presence of others in his garden and wants everyone to stay as far away from him as possible. So they start chasing them away every day. He becomes so concerned about being left alone that even spring leaves him, and the North Wind is the only one who visits him. Only through much humility and perseverance does he manage not only to get rid of the label of "selfish", but also to attract others, once again, closer to him.

„"The Selfish Giant" is a story about the consequences that arise when we try to isolate ourselves from those around us, refusing to understand that only what we share with others remains truly ours.
