THE ORADEA INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL – 2016 EDITION BEGINS
The Regina Maria Theater, with the support of the Bihor County Council and the Oradea City Hall, organizes the 4th edition of the Oradea International Theater Festival between September 25 and October 2, 2016.
The International Theatre Festival is a complex cultural and theatrical event, which includes several sections. This year, under the aegis of the great festival, the XXII edition of the Short Theatre Festival will take place, the Dramatic Creation Contest, a special section dedicated to the Oradea audience – Major invited performances and independent theatre performances.
selection Short Theatre Festival (the only one dedicated to the one-act play in the country) was carried out this year by the theater critic Doru Mares. The 16 shows that will compete in the festival will certainly succeed in delighting and surprising through the diversity of genres and themes. Thus, we invite theater lovers to enjoy the comedies that have fascinated the audience lately, to feel the emotion of the dramas that have challenged them, to analyze lucidly or to let themselves be lost in a dream world. The jury, consisting of theater critics Mircea Morariu – president of the jury, Ion Parhon and director Alexa Visarion, will award prizes for best show, best direction, best set design, best actor, best actress and a special jury prize.
jury Dramatic Creation Competition, consisting of Elisabeta Pop, Ioan Moldovan and Victoria Balint, It was not an easy task this year, as 20 drama texts were entered into the competition, four of which were selected for the final.
TO section Great Shows, as we have accustomed the Oradea audience to every year, we have invited the best productions that have been staged on the Romanian theater stage over time. Performances directed by great Romanian directors, such as Victor Ioan Frunză and Alexandru Dabija, will transform the theater's Great Hall into a true celebration.
The tradition of open-air performances continues this year. Unirii Square will dress up as an actor and welcome the audience with a variety of theatrical performances, starting with the musical comedies of the Regina Maria Theater: Leonce and Lena and The Lovers of Ancona, which are offered to the public free of charge.
Independent theaters will honor the Oradea stage with the most extraordinary productions, which you will be able to admire in Urban Pub and at the Studio Act Hall (Koser), where you can also purchase tickets.
Because we promised a rich edition, in addition to the impressive selection of performances, we invite you to several related events that will complete the festival, starting with the DIRECTOR'S PORTRAIT of stage director Victor Ioan Frunză. The mastery of this theater man cannot be celebrated in any other way than through performance and applause, so we invite you to the three great productions created by him at different theaters in the country, starting with DOMNUL JURDAN, premiere of the Regina Maria Theater with which, incidentally, the festival will open.
Another important theater man who will be celebrated this year at FITO is theater critic Ion Parhon, who is celebrating 50 years of activity and the beautiful age of 72.
An invitation addressed to all theater and book lovers, especially the youngest ones, is launched by director Alexa Visarion, who will hold a conference on the status and importance of the actor, during which the book "„Alexa Visarion or the destiny of vocation".
The 29 shows that will transform Oradea's autumn into a theatrical season will be performed in 8 different spaces, including 7 shows at the Great Hall of the Regina Maria Theater, 6 at the Trade Unions' Culture House, 5 at the Arcadia Hall, 4 at the Mobile Stage, one in Urban Pub, 2 at the Studio Szigligeti Hall, 2 at the Studio Act Hall and one at the Center for Tourism Promotion.

On the 50th anniversary of the first theater festival in Oradea – Short Theatre Week, the Regina Maria Theatre announces the selection of the 10th edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival (FITO), financed by the Bihor County Council, which will take place between 11–20 September 2026. This year's anniversary edition brings to the fore a broad and diverse program, built around the two already established sections: the 28th edition of the Short Theatre Festival and the 6th edition of the Arcadia Children's Theatre Festival, which resumes after an 8-year break. The program of performances will be supported by a series of other events that will transform FITO into a meeting place between artists, professionals in the field of performing arts and the public.
