"Tom Vinegar" in FNT 2022
The show "Vinegar Tom", by Caryl Churchill, directed by Dragoș Alexandru Mușoiu, is part of the selection of the 32nd edition of the Bucharest National Theater Festival, which will take place between November 5-13, 2022. The joy is even greater, as it is the second consecutive year in which shows from the repertoire of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe of the Regina Maria Theater are found in the festival selection, this year being "Three Tall Women" and "Legacy of Luck".
The curatorial team of FNT 2022, consisting of Mihaela Michailov, Oana Cristea Grigorescu and Călin Ciobotari, selected for this edition performances from across the country, proposed by state and independent theaters, to which international performances were added, guided by the festival concept, namely: Fragile Borders. Fluid Histories.
The show "Vinegar Tom" will be part of the "Fluid Histories" section, subsection "Macro-histories. Fragmented Societies", which groups performances that revisit the relationship with the past and interrogate the present, reread collective and family histories from subjective perspectives, and question controversial episodes from official history.
"Vinegar Tom" premiered at the Regina Maria Theatre on April 19, 2022. The subject it develops is inspired by objective reality: the witch hunt in 17th-century England, but brings to the fore a burning, uncomfortable theme: gender discrimination and the condition of women in a patriarchal society. The plot, like Brechtian texts, is alternated with contemporary musical inserts, which function as a commentary on the subject, with the aim of generating a critical attitude in the viewer, but also as a connecting arc between the past and the present, highlighting the evolution, change and problems that still persist.
The cast includes the following actors: Alina Leonte (Alice), Ioana-Maria Repciuc (Susan), Elvira Rîmbu (Joan Noakes), Adela Lazar (Margery), Pavel Sîrghi (Jack), Giorgiana Coman (Betty), Anda Tămășanu (Ellen), Richard Balint (Packer), George Dometi (Goody, the doctor), Alin Stanciu (the man, Bellringer), Corina Cernea (Kramer) and Angela Tanko (Sprenger).
Luiza Enescu and Oana Cernea design the costumes, the set design is by Răzvan Chendrean, and the assistant director and choreography belong to actress Denisa Irina Vlad.
Congratulations to the team and we can't wait to see you in the FNT!
