Having the allure of a dramatic poem, "The Three Nights of Love" is a symbolic and poetic play, the action of which is projected against the tragic backdrop of World War II. The play traces the thread of the love story, touching in its ephemerality, between Iulia and Balint-the Poet. The young married couple live in a huge empty house in Budapest, but their oasis of peace turns out to be illusory. The two and their group of bohemian friends intersect with representatives of the outside world – the Judge and his wife, the Captain, the Air Raid Officer and others – bringers of gloomy premonitions. Indeed, Balint will be forced to go to war and will never return. He leaves behind a short but ardor-filled existence: he loved passionately, made true friends, was generous, sincere, pure. His absurd death not only ends the love story, but also cancels the potential work of the Poet, who will be left without a biography.

The play conveys the voice of a humanist who says a resolute NO to war, the catastrophes and traumas it entails, so that "The Three Nights of a Love" acquires an openness towards universality, through its accents of modern tragedy.
