Krzysztof Warlikowski is one of the most representative European directors of his generation. He was born in Poland in 1962. Together with the set designer Małgorzata Szczęśniak, Warlikowski creates exceptional theatrical images. In his work with the actor, he guides him to the deepest layers of his creativity. He practically invented a new way of staging Shakespeare. His work also includes subversive interpretations of Greek tragedies, and he is also known for staging contemporary authors. His production, purifying by Sarah Kane was very well received at the Avignon Festival in 2002 and at the Festival de Théâtre des Amériques in Montreal – this being a decisive moment for Warlikowski's entry onto the international stage.
Since 2008 he has been the artistic director of NowyTeatre (New Theatre) in Warsaw, where he has directed four performances to date, based on his own adaptations of several texts: (A) Pollonia (2009), end (2010),African stories by Shakespeare (2011) andKabaretwarszawski (2013). He is currently working on a stage adaptation of the novel In search of lost time by Marcel Proust.
At NowyTeatre, Warlikowski created a personal vision of the role and place of theatre in society, involving the audience as well. His motto for theatre became: ”Escape through theatre.”

On the 50th anniversary of the first theater festival in Oradea – Short Theatre Week, the Regina Maria Theatre announces the selection of the 10th edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival (FITO), financed by the Bihor County Council, which will take place between 11–20 September 2026. This year's anniversary edition brings to the fore a broad and diverse program, built around the two already established sections: the 28th edition of the Short Theatre Festival and the 6th edition of the Arcadia Children's Theatre Festival, which resumes after an 8-year break. The program of performances will be supported by a series of other events that will transform FITO into a meeting place between artists, professionals in the field of performing arts and the public.
