PRESS RELEASE | Premiere of "Vasilache and Mărioara"„

The Arcadia troupe of the Regina Maria Theater announces a new premiere of the 2022-2023 season: "Vasilache and Mărioara", based on a text by Mihai Crişan, adaptation and artistic coordination: Igor Lungu, which will take place on Sunday, June 18, at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall.

Created on the structure of the fairground theater, which has ancient roots and knew its heyday with the Commedia dell'Arte, "Vasilache and Mărioara" is a show in which farce, satire and mischief are what provide color and humor. Of course, the Romanian characters acquire native features: traditional costume, music and dance, popular language, attitudes specific to the common man, but exaggerated. The two characters are, in fact, considered the most famous characters in the Romanian traveling puppet theater.

The story, in whatever form it takes, because improvisation is the basis of a fairground theater show, has as its central plot the couple's conflict, filtered through the filter of humor. In order to establish who sings in the family, the hen or the rooster, the two characters bicker, play pranks, contradict each other and even pretend to be each other, but when Vasilache gets into big trouble, Mărioara comes to his aid.

Starting from the features of commedia dell'arte, Vasilache can be classified as the archetype Trickster, of the trickster character, like Pulcinella, who is an intermediary between the material and spiritual worlds and is characterized by intelligence, brute force, and reckless courage. His goal is to defeat those who represent negative authority, in this case Death.

The creative team includes Igor Lungu, who adapted the text, directed and is part of the cast, along with Iulia Dinescu. Iulia Dinescu studied UNATC, Puppets-Marionettes department, was a puppeteer at the Puck Theater in Cluj-Napoca and at the Magic Puppet Theater, and since this year she has been a collaborator of the Arcadia Troupe. The set design is created by Mădălina Baciu.

The show is recommended for children over 5 years old.

The second performance of the show "Vasilache and Măroara" is scheduled for July 2, at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall. We look forward to seeing you this summer at "Beauty and the Beast" (June 24) and "The Three Little Pigs" (July 9), at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall.

You can purchase tickets from the theater agency, open Tuesday and Thursday between 12:00-18:00, Wednesday and Friday between 10:00-14:00 and Saturday between 11:00-13:00, online at Eventim.ro or one hour before the show at the Arcadia Theater (subject to availability).

Let's create a summer of stories together!
