A new comedy will premiere in March | How the Other Half Loves

The Iosif Vulcan troupe of the Regina Maria Theatre announces the premiere of the show "How the Other Half Loves" by Alan Ayckbourn, directed by Victor Olăhuț, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and March 22, 2026, from 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

Sir Alan Ayckbourn (born 1939) is a British playwright with a career spanning over six decades. His plays have won numerous international awards, including the Olivier, Tony and Molière Awards. His work is closely associated with the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, where he was artistic director for 37 years.

Written in the late 1960s, "How the Other Half Loves" is one of the texts that solidified Alan Ayckbourn's dramatic reputation. The play is an ingenious dramatic construction, in which the lives of three couples intersect in a series of comic situations, built on misunderstandings, appearances and avoided truths. Beyond humor, the show becomes a reflection on the fragility of relationships and on the way we relate to each other.

The show is directed by Victor Olăhuț, actor, director and founder of the "Cultură'n Șură" Association. A graduate of the Faculty of Theatre and Television at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, he has staged shows in both national and municipal theatres, as well as in the area of independent productions, developing a directing career that combines classical dramaturgy, contemporary text and original stage creation. This is his first collaboration with the acting team of the Regina Maria Theatre, but not with the Oradea audience, his show, "The Wedding", being selected to be part of the outdoor program of the Oradea International Theatre Festival - FITO, 2023 edition.

The set design is by Oana Cernea, who constructs a fluid scenic space, in which the boundaries between the characters' universes become permeable, and the planes of reality overlap. The setting simultaneously suggests the intimacy of the domestic space and the fragility of the relationships that unfold within it, supporting the idea that, beyond social differences, the characters' emotional experiences are surprisingly similar.

The cast includes the following actors:
Fiona Foster Elvira Rîmbu
Frank Foster Serban Borda
Teresa Phillips Lucia Rogoz
Bob Phillips Sebastian Wolf
Mary Featherstone Ioana Dragos Gajdo
William Featherstone Alexander Rusu

The next performances are scheduled for April 7 and 27, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

Tickets can be purchased from the theater agency or online, on the Regina Maria Theater website or on the poftimcultura.ro platform.
