Queen Marie Theater Oradea

Artistic director

Date and place of birth: Cărpineni, Republic of Moldova

Studies: State Institute of Arts "Gavriil Musicescu" Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, 1983

He came, as an employee of the Oradea State Theatre, in 1997, and for five years he staged several shows in good Romanian tradition, but also with visible influences of the Russian theatrical school: a contained modernity that stems from his personal vision, grafted on a rigorous cultural training and a connection to the reality of the Oradea theatre. The chronicler Mircea Morariu recorded the hesitant way – of course – in which he approached Eduardo de Filippo's comedy, at least the first part of the show being quite boring. We believe that the show was nevertheless balanced and that the performers were guided towards a game with increased coverage in the consistent humor of the famous Italian playwright.

With the show "The Cold" by Marin Sorescu, the director took a step forward. And even though he was accused of "excessive pathos, to the detriment of Sorescu's typical wry humor", the show - involving almost the entire troupe - was a winning bet, with a "seriousness and monumentality" that, of course, were primarily due to the director's vision.

In 1999 he staged the Caragiale comedy "A Stormy Night". Critic Ion Parhon claimed that the director led the good, experienced actors towards "an often crude manner of interpretation... depriving the show of intrinsic comic substance..." More gently, Dumitru Chirilă calls the show "a quiet improvisation".

In 2000, he signed the show "Delirium in two, in three... in as many as you want" by Eugen Ionescu. Billed by a columnist as "a student exercise in a professional key", it was an unfortunate opportunity to showcase several talented young actors: Paula Chirilă, Angela Tanko, Şerban Borda, Andrian Locovei and Igor Lungu.

With the same openness and interest in authentic values, the director staged a show for children: "Harap Alb" - proving that he knows Creangă well, Gheorghe Calamanciuc's dramatization constituting a good pretext for creating scenes full of fantasy and not lacking in humor.
