"IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE LEAR EPISODE" AT THE INTERNATIONAL NEW THEATRE FESTIVAL – ARAD

The Regina Maria Theatre had the honor of participating on Friday, May 13, at the International New Theatre Festival in Arad with the show "In the Heart of the Night - Episode Lear". For 90 minutes, Avram Iancu Square was enlivened by the Oradea show, which once again enjoyed the presence of expert critics in the audience, among whom we recall Claudiu Groza, the festival selector, Raluca Rădulescu and Miruna Runcan.

The audience was not at all scared by the low temperature that fell over the city in the middle of the night, and the show was played to a sold-out crowd and was visibly appreciated by the people of Arad, who applauded for minutes on end.

The International New Theatre Festival was in its fourth edition this year, bringing together a selection of 24 current performances, presenting a faithful image of Romanian theatrical trends, which were joined by two theater troupes from Italy and Hungary.

The show "In the Heart of the Night - The Lear Episode", although it starts from a classic Shakespearean play, namely "King Lear", enjoys a modern rewriting and a contemporary approach, due to the scenographic vision of Roxana Ionescu and the directorial vision of Gavriil Pinte, who, incidentally, rewrote the text together with the renowned theater scholar George Banu and the theater studies professor Monique Borie.

The Regina Maria Theater successfully participated last year at the New Theater Festival with the show "The Ritual Murder of Gorge Mastromas" by Dennis Kelly, artistic direction by Bobi Pricop.

The appreciation enjoyed by "The Lear Episode" is attested by the delight with which it was received by the general and specialized public, but also by the festivals to which it was invited in such a short period of time since its premiere. Thus, having just arrived from Arad, we had the pleasure of receiving a new invitation to another prestigious Romanian festival – the Atelier Festival, which will take place in Baia Mare in June of this year.
