PRESS RELEASE | Opening of the archive exhibition

On December 19, the Regina Maria Theater and the Szigligeti Theater, in partnership with the National Archives, opened in the two pockets of the Loji Foyer, the exhibition "Musical and theatrical memories. Archive treasures from the cultural heritage of Oradea".

The exhibition contains an important selection of documents, posters, scores, fragments of old texts, some dating back even before the construction of the theater, which capture aspects of Oradea's theatrical life. The opening of the exhibition was attended by representatives of both Romanian and Hungarian theater, as well as the Bihor County Service of the National Archives, who discussed the importance of the archive, which acts as a form of physical and fixed memory, about Oradea's theatrical life at the beginning of its journey and the need to research old documents.

„"Preserving theatrical memory must be not only an act of justice, but also a reparative act and a permanent concern of current colleagues. It is a very good thing to always go towards the document that leads us to our past", emphasized Mrs. Elisabeta Pop, theater critic and former literary secretary of the Oradea theater, during the opening event.

The opening will be open until mid-January and can be visited by spectators before the performances taking place in the theater's Great Hall or during guided tours.

At the same time, on the occasion of organizing this exhibition, the foundations were laid for the cooperation agreement signed by the two Oradea theaters with the Bihor County Service of the National Archives, to facilitate access to documents kept in the archive, with the aim of encouraging research into the city's cultural past.

We invite you to visit the exhibition and enjoy both the past and present of Oradea's theater!

On the 50th anniversary of the first theater festival in Oradea – Short Theatre Week, the Regina Maria Theatre announces the selection of the 10th edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival (FITO), financed by the Bihor County Council, which will take place between 11–20 September 2026. This year's anniversary edition brings to the fore a broad and diverse program, built around the two already established sections: the 28th edition of the Short Theatre Festival and the 6th edition of the Arcadia Children's Theatre Festival, which resumes after an 8-year break. The program of performances will be supported by a series of other events that will transform FITO into a meeting place between artists, professionals in the field of performing arts and the public.
