PRESS RELEASE | Fiddler on the Roof returns to the stage by popular demand
The famous musical "The Fiddler on the Roof" returns to the stage of the Regina Maria Theater at the request of the audience. An emblematic show of recent years for the Romanian theater in Oradea, the musical premiered on September 25, 2011 and has always been performed to full houses since then. The audience's interest in the Oradea production quickly expanded and it soon became a cultural tourist attraction for theater lovers from all over the country.
Due to its success, "The Fiddler on the Roof" was invited to participate in eight major festivals in the country, had national tours in important cities, such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Pitești, and crossed the country's borders, playing in Budapest on the occasion of the Romanian Community Days, at the invitation of the Romanian Embassy in Hungary.
A significant contribution to the phenomenon that was born around the show was also brought by the specialized criticism, "The Fiddler on the Roof" being crowned with nominations and awards, among which we mention the two nominations at the UNITER Awards Gala in 2012, for Ioana Dragoş Gajdo (Golde) and Vioara Bara (scenographer), and the special jury award at the "Atelier" Festival in 2012 for Richard Balint (Tevye).
With short interruptions, "The Fiddler on the Roof" has been performed with the same verve for 12 years and remains a benchmark show in the repertoire of the Regina Maria Theatre. Considering the scale of the project, with a large cast, slightly modified now compared to previous years, imposing sets, complex choreography, live orchestra and authentic costumes, its resumption required a sustained effort from the team, but this did not steal from the enthusiasm of the reunion.
At the same time, the return of "Fiddler on the Roof" at this time also has a commemorative significance, being dedicated to director György Korcsmáros, who recently passed away, on October 25, 2022.
The first performance was scheduled for January 21, 2023, and tickets sold out in just three days after the show was announced. The next performance will take place on February 17, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall of the Regina Maria Theater, and tickets will soon go on sale at the theater's agency (0359/452.324) and online at Eventim.ro.
