PRESS RELEASE | Oradea is preparing for FITO_Oradea International Theatre Festival June 1-9, 2024
The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce the 9th edition of the Oradea International Theater Festival, which will take place between June 1-9, 2024. The event is organized in partnership with the Bihor County Council, the FITO Cultural Foundation and the Oradea City Hall.
Spectators from Bihor, as well as tourists visiting Oradea at the beginning of June, are invited to enjoy 9 intense days of theater, during which they will have the opportunity to watch 27 performances from renowned theaters from across the country and abroad, two concerts, but also to participate in a literary café and discussions about theater.
This year the Oradea International Theatre Festival will include three major sections: the Competition – Short Theatre Festival, Section Guest Performances – Off Competition and the section Outdoor.
Short Theatre Festival is a unique cultural manifestation in the Romanian theatrical landscape, the first edition took place in 1976. Until 2013, when the FITO concept was created, which was conceived as a larger event, it functioned as a stand-alone festival. Since 2013, it has become the main section of the Oradea International Theatre Festival and has a competitive character. This year it has reached its XXVII edition and includes a number of 19 performances that will compete for the five prizes awarded by the jury. The selection was made by the Management of the Regina Maria Theatre, and the jury is made up of three personalities from the theatrical world, namely: director Bobi Pricop, actress Cosmina Stratan and set designer Irina Moscu.
Section Guest Performances – Off Competition is dedicated especially to the people of Oradea and brings to the audience 3 exceptional productions, which bear the signature of three of the great personalities of the local theatrical world: "Neliniște" directed by Bobi Pricop; "Tzuki și Tati", a show by Florin Piersic Jr. and "Trilogia memoriei" directed by Radu Afrim.
This year's international dimension of the festival also includes performances from Hungary and Poland, which will be performed both in the Short Theatre Festival and in the Off Competition sections. The Csokonai National Theatre in Debrecen competes with the performance "Nincstelenenek/ Deposed", and the Jókai Theatre in Békéscsaba competes with the performance "Az Öltöztetőt/ Cabinierul"; Teatri Polski Bydgoszcz invites us to recall the final moments of the communist regime with the performance "The Last Days of Elena and Nicolae Ceaușescu".
Section Outdoor comes with a big surprise. In addition to the street theater performances, which will take place in the Vulturul Negru Passage ("The Banner Painter" - June 5) and at the Oradea Citadel ("What an amazing steam!" - June 4; "Hellequin" - June 8) with free admission, the public is invited on June 7, from 9:00 PM, in Unirii Square, to a jazz concert, where the bands VanDerCris and Balkan Union will perform.
Also, viewers will have the opportunity to see two new premieres of the Regina Maria Theatre: "Who do I vote for?", scripted and directed by Gavriil Pinte, a traveling show, which will be performed on June 1 and 6, at 7:00 PM, starting from Union Square, and "The Foot", a musical in 2 acts, both moving and comical, created in memory of Charlie Chaplin, under the directorial guidance of Halasy Imre, which will be performed on June 2, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall of the Theatre.
This year, big names in Romanian theater will meet in Oradea, including actors Marius Bodochi, Florin Piersic Jr., Dorina Lazăr, Emilian Oprea or Alexandru Papadopol, as well as directors, critics and theater managers.
