PRESS RELEASE | Arcadia troupe prepares for the premiere of THE CURIOUS ELEPHANT

The Arcadia Troupe team of the Regina Maria Theater is preparing for a new premiere: "The Curious Elephant" by Nina Cassian, adapted and directed by Iulian Bulancea, which will take place Sunday, April 14, from 11:00 a.m., at the Arcadia Hall.

"The Curious Elephant" is a funny text, inspired by the story "The Elephant's Baby" by Rudyard Kipling. The main character of the story is a baby elephant, from the time when elephants did not yet have trunks, who wants to discover the world. So he asks a lot of questions to the animals around him, but they become annoyed by his insistence and end up avoiding him. But the baby elephant does not give up and when the curiosity arises in his mind to find out what the crocodile eats for dinner, he sets off on a real adventure to find the answer.

Nina Cassian's story is built on an ingenious play between naive versification and the incredible humor that results from the rain of questions and the innocence specific to children. The main theme that the text develops is the importance of curiosity in the development of a child, a natural quality that is essential in the process of growth and education, with surprising results from a social, cognitive and emotional point of view. But the story is all the more playful as it subtly transforms into a valuable exhortation for parents: to stimulate children's curiosity and to have the patience necessary to answer their questions.

The show is staged by the director Julian Bulancea, who is already on his third collaboration with Arcadia Troupe. Each time he comes up with an unconventional direction proposal, and if the first time he opted for shadow theater, the second time for a show with 2D scenography, this time he chose to create a show made of multi-colored neon lights.

I discovered the text when I was of school age, in a volume by Nina Cassian, and I liked it very much. Later I saw several performances and read reviews of performances based on this text. I thought it was a very good text, educational and very beautiful from the point of view of writing, confesses director Iulian Bulancea.

The cast consists of the following actors: Armanca Serac, Florian Silaghi, Andrei Fazecaș, Igor Lungu, Alexandru Pop and Iulia Dinescu.

The show's creative team also includes set designer Emese Csüri and prop maker Răzvan Chendrean.

All tickets for the premiere are already sold out. The next performance for the general public is scheduled for April 27, at 11:00 AM, at the Arcadia Hall and is being performed as part of the Arcadia Story Week event.

Tickets are available at the theater agency, according to the following schedule:

Tuesday-Thursday: 12:00-18:00
Wednesday-Friday: 10:00-14:00
Saturday: 11:00-13:00
