Related events, festivals and shows for the public in the county in May

In May, the Regina Maria Theater continued to fulfill its cultural mission not only on the Oradea stage, but also outside the city, through a series of performances and special events that brought the theater closer to communities in Bihor County and the country.

Travel within the county

On May 26, 2025, the Iosif Vulcan Troupe performed the show „"Until death do us part"” at the Beiuș Cultural Center, in front of 160 spectators. The Beiuș audience enthusiastically received this black comedy, appreciating the humor and depth of the themes addressed, in a room full of energy and lively reactions.

The next day, on May 27, the Arcadia Troupe went in a different direction, addressing the youngest spectators. The show „"Apollodor, the traveling penguin"” was presented at the Cultural Center in Palota, starting at 10:30. The primary school students from the Secondary School No. 1 in Sântandrei were in the hall, and they watched with delight the adventures of the penguin Apolodor. Filled with rhythm, color and good humor, this performance brought joy and curiosity among the children.

Through such trips, the Regina Maria Theater reaffirms its cultural mission to provide access to quality performances to the most diverse audience possible, promoting artistic dialogue and cultural education at the county level.

Traveling in the country – participating in festivalsand

On May 2, „"The Foot"” was presented within the Festival Close from Baia Mare, bringing emotion and empathy among the festival audience.

On May 15, the show „"An enemy of the people"” represented the Queen Maria Theatre at International New Theatre Festival in Arad, where it sparked strong reactions and consolidated the theater's position on the national festival circuit.

VERSUS. Contemporary poetry
On Friday, May 23, at 6:00 PM, in the Great Hall of the Regina Maria Theater, poetry took to the stage in the form of a duel. The performance „"VERSUS. Contemporary Poetry"” brought together the vibrant voices of generations X, Y and Z in an effervescent recital. Poems by Ioan Moldovan, Olga Ștefan, Maya Angelou, Cezar Ivănescu, Emil Brumaru, among others, were performed by actors Mirela Niță Lupu, Ioana Dragoș Gajdo, Petre Ghimbășan, George Dometi, Carina Bunea and Anda Tămășanu, musically accompanied by Khaleea (Alexandra Koszeghi).
Project coordinators: Florina Dometi and Anda Tămășanu
The event was recommended for audiences over 14 years old.

Let's play! – Gyere to play!
On May 30, from 10:00, at the Arcadia Theater, 50 children – Romanian and Hungarian – third grade students from two schools in Oradea, will meet in an interactive theater and games workshop. The event is the result of the collaboration between three artistic teams dedicated to education through art: The Lilliput Band of the Szigligeti Theatre, Arcadia Crew of the Queen Maria Theatre and Eclectic Association.

The goal of the workshop is to use the universal language of play as a bridge between languages, cultures and children. Under the coordination of 10 actors – Romanian and Hungarian – participants will discover, through laughter, movement and improvisation, that friendship does not need translation.

The program includes dynamic and cooperative games such as Samurai Warrior or The cordless phone, but also interactive activities specially designed by actors from the two troupes. These are meant to stimulate spontaneity, empathy, the courage to speak the other's language and the curiosity to discover the world through the eyes of a colleague from a different culture.

Let's play! – Gyere to play! is not just a workshop. It is an artistic and educational gesture that cultivates tolerance and openness, starting from a simple truth: play is the first form of common language. And when play is guided with sensitivity and intention, it becomes a tool for closeness and deep emotional learning.

This event is part of the project THEATRE AND PLAY #TOGETHER/EGYÜTT a broader approach that aims to build more united and aware communities – from the age of play.

On the 50th anniversary of the first theater festival in Oradea – Short Theatre Week, the Regina Maria Theatre announces the selection of the 10th edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival (FITO), financed by the Bihor County Council, which will take place between 11–20 September 2026. This year's anniversary edition brings to the fore a broad and diverse program, built around the two already established sections: the 28th edition of the Short Theatre Festival and the 6th edition of the Arcadia Children's Theatre Festival, which resumes after an 8-year break. The program of performances will be supported by a series of other events that will transform FITO into a meeting place between artists, professionals in the field of performing arts and the public.
