PRESS RELEASE | RMN, the newest film by director Cristian Mungiu, in Oradea

RMN, the newest film by director Cristian Mungiu, for the first time, in the presence of the team in Oradea

MRI, The newest film by director Cristian Mungiu will be seen in a special screening at Regina Maria Theater in Oradea, Friday, June 10, starting at 19.00. Director Cristian Mungiu and actor Kovács Levente Jr. will be present at the event, and at the end of the screening they will answer questions from the audience.

MRI tells a story about the profound springs of human behavior in the face of realities that surprise us, about the relationship with others and about the way we all relate today to an unsettling future. Director Cristian Mungiu describes the film as "a story about the relationship between the old times – perceived as more trustworthy because they had become familiar to us – and the current times, felt as chaotic. It is also a story about the self-deception generated by a set of European values that remain more of a desideratum than an accomplishment. It is a story about intolerance and discrimination, about prejudice, stereotypes, authority and freedom, a story about cowardice and courage, about the individual and the masses, about personal destiny versus the collective. It is also a story about survival, about poverty, about fear and an unsettling future."

After the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the first laudatory reviews appeared in international publications: "Discrete sequences, of astonishing clarity and density, with a rigor of construction camouflaged by the spontaneity of presentation", "A complex film, so full of ideas that you would expect that concern for aesthetics would not be a priority, but MRI is of an almost unbelievable beauty" notes Jessica Kiang in Variety. "RMN is a fascinating, very human exploration of the multiple problems facing Romania"  appreciates Jordan Mintzer in The Hollywood Reporter.

Viewers in Oradea will be able to see the film on the big screen and will have the opportunity to meet director Cristian Mungiu and actor Kovács Levente Jr. at the screening on Friday, June 10, starting at 7:00 PM.

The event is held in partnership with the Regina Maria Oradea Theater.

The film stars Marin Grigore, Judith State, Macrina Bârlădeanu and Orsolya Moldován. The script and direction are by Cristian Mungiu. Filming took place between November 2021 and January 2022, mainly in the village of Rimetea in Alba County, but also in other localities in Transylvania.

Synopsis: Around Christmas, Matthias returns from work in Germany to his native Transylvanian village, concerned about the child growing up without him (Rudi), his father who remains alone (Otto) and his childhood sweetheart whom he longs to see again (Csilla). He wants to get more involved in the education of the boy who has been left alone in the care of his mother (Ana) for too long and to rid him of the vague fears that have gripped him. When foreign workers are hired at the factory that Csilla looks after, the peace of the commune is disturbed, fears engulf the adults as well, and frustrations, conflicts and impulses burst to the surface through the thin veneer of apparent understanding and calm.

MRI is distributed in Romania from June 3rd by Voodoo Films. The trailer can be seen on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9bjpg20EmA&t=17s
