THE EIGHTH PREMIERE OF THE REGINA MARIA THEATRE – “Café Pirandello”
The Regina Maria Theatre is delighted to announce the eighth premiere of the 2016-2017 season – "Caféneaua Pirandello", dramatic script by Anca Măniuțiu, based on texts by Luigi Pirandello, which will take place on Sunday, May 7, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.
The project brings together an extraordinary team of artists, personalities who serve the Romanian stage with great reverence, creating over time shows of high artistic value, distinguished with important awards and rewarded with incessant applause.
The show bears the signature of one of the most famous contemporary Romanian directors, with the unusual and complex imaginary universe of which the Oradea audience meets again for the fifth time: Mihai Măniuțiu. Always surprising and original, Mihai Măniuțiu proposes to the audience this time too an original and heterogeneous project, which perfectly combines in its layers the theatrical language, with all the valences it assumes, with the choreographic and musical one.
The choreography is designed by Andrea Gavriliu, a young artist who already enjoys an impressive CV and appreciation, gained both through her effervescent choreographic vision and as an actress, to music composed by Mihai Dobre, one of the founding members of the Şuie Paparude band, who since 2015 has forged a beautiful friendship with the Romanian theater, creating the musical illustration of successful shows.
The set is designed by Adrian Damian, one of the most acclaimed Romanian set designers of the moment, who has stimulated the art of set design locally through the bold projects he has created, managing to create a dialogue between technology, complex technical elements and theater, and the costumes by Luiza Enescu, a young set designer who has created the costumes for famous theater performances and television shows. The light design is by Lucian Moga.
The project also brings together 24 actors from the Regina Maria Theater on stage, namely: Șerban Borda, Sebastian Lupu, Denisa Vlad, George Voinese, Emil Sauciuc, Georgia Căprărin, Adela Lazar, Alina Leonte, Angela Tanko, Gabriela Codrea, Anda Tămășanu, Mirela Lupu, Petre Ghimbășan, Ion Ruscuț, Richard Balint, Andrian Locovei, Răzvan Vicoveanu, Alexandru Rusu, Eugen Neag, George Dometi, Pavel Sîrghi, Consuela Egyed, Sorin Ionescu and Ciprian Ciuciu.
The show starts from a dramatic script written by Anca Măniuțiu, based on two plays by playwright Luigi Pirandello: Omul with the flower in his mouth and The giants of the mountains, in the intertext of which disparate lines from Six characters in search of an author and Tonight they're improvising.
"Pirandellian" characters, spectrally projected in a deserted night café, located - not coincidentally - close to the train station, meet and unleash an absurd world, where the border between dream and reality becomes fluid. In this ghostly setting, a group of circus performers infiltrate, who dynamize the atmosphere and give the show a comic touch. The word, in a world under the sign of the dream, acquires a secondary role, and the music and, especially, the choreographic language assume its illustrative dimension.
,"The show tries to capture a hallucinatory, fantastic world, under the sign of the dream, where the border between reality and dream (or nightmare) is very fragile. Pirandello Cafe it is the materialization of an emblematic metaphor and an ancient theatrical motif: life is a dream.” (Anca Maniuțiu)
