The Earth Hour movement is a global initiative that aims to draw attention to the problems represented by global warming and the danger of excessive consumption of resources. It consists not only of turning off the lights for one hour but refers to a real commitment to changing behavior and lifestyle in order to reduce the impact on the environment as much as possible. In the last edition, in 2011, over 135 countries, 6000 cities and about 1 billion 500 million people were involved in this campaign worldwide.

This year, on 31.03.2012 at 20:30 local time, in the most important cities in the world and implicitly Romania, for 60 minutes, advertising and tourist lighting will be turned off, without affecting public lighting and the safety of the population. Also, individuals and legal entities will join the campaign, being encouraged to stop the use of those consumers of electricity that are not essential during this time interval (computers and electronic equipment left in working condition, light bulbs on, advertising signs, etc.)

Year after year, the initiative group has participated in raising awareness of what the Earth Hour project signifies and seeks to achieve, Oradea being the first city in Romania to join the global initiative alongside Bucharest, starting in 2008. At the local level, the movement will enjoy, as every year, the involvement of the National Organization of the Scouts of Romania - Oradea Local Center, as well as support from the Oradea City Hall or the Regina Maria Theater.

Although we will have a show on 31.03.2012, and act 2 will be in full swing, the Regina Maria Theater supports the movement by turning off the architectural lighting of the institution, which has participated in other years, ensuring valuable continuity for the local Earth Hour movement. The National Organization of the Scouts of Romania – Oradea Local Center will provide handmade ecological candles and lamps, which will be symbolically placed in front of the theater building, for the duration of the 60 minutes.
