A sensational new musical on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater
The Regina Maria Theatre team is delighted to announce the premiere of the show „"The Sound of Music"”, music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, libretto by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, based on the novel "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp. This production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of R&H Theatricals and will premiere on Saturday, June 1, at 7:00 PM, in the Great Hall and on Sunday, June 2, at the opening of this edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival.
The show "The Sound of Music" is based on the play of the same name, which, in turn, is inspired by the true story of the von Trapp family. The action revolves around the teenager Maria who, during World War II, goes from being a postulant at the Nonnberg monastery to being the governess of the seven children of the widowed naval captain Georg von Trapp. Through music, Maria will manage to conquer the hearts of the children and the captain alike, and love will help them overcome the horrors of war, from fleeing the Nazis to the economic recession.
Maria's autobiography was the inspiration for the famous film The Sound of Music, directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The Sound of Music won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and became one of the most beloved musicals in cinema history.
Both the direction and the choreography are signed by Mihaela Bogdan, an artist with an impressive portfolio both in terms of directed performances and collaborations with theater companies in the country and abroad, such as T-Bob company, Miami University Opera Theater or the ExArt company. She collaborated with Vancouver Opera – Canada, Indianapolis Opera – USA and obtained a specialization course in baroque movement and technique at the International Haendel Akademie, Karlsruhe, Germany.
„[…] Maria opens Pandora's Box and brings to light the inner child within them and within us… I want the audience to go through this journey with us through their own souls and through forgotten or closed corners. I want us all to allow ourselves the vulnerability to find our innocence…”, she says.
The show's scenography is signed by Amalia Buie, scenographer at the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, but also a fashion designer, so both the costumes, the decor and the paintings that you will see in the show are all the creation of her imagination.
The cast includes the following actors: Adela Lazar (Maria Rainer, postulant sister at the Abbey Monastery), Sorin Ionescu (Captain Georg von Trapp), Alexandru Rusu (Max Detweiler), Ioana Dragoș Gajdo (Mother Abbess), Gabriela Codrea (Baroness Elsa Schraeder), Eugen Neag (Rolfe Gruber – the postman, Liesl von Trapp's lover), Zentania Lupșe (Sister Berta, Mother of Novices), Anca Sigmirean (Sister Margareta, Mother of Postulants), Carina Bunea (Sister Sophia), Răzvan Vicoveanu (Hans Zeller, Gauleiter), Emil Sauciuc (Franz, the butler), Mirela Niță Lupu (Frau Schmidt, the housekeeper), Denisa Vlad (Ursula, Mother Postulant), Ionuț Șerban (Nazi Lieutenant), George Voinese (Baron Elberfeld), Maria Teișanu (Liesl von Trapp), Filip Mut/ Alexandru Faur-Balint (Friedrich von Trapp), Raisa Vesa/ Gia Cordea (Louisa von Trapp), Filip Ionescu/ Iacob Lakatoș (Kurt von Trapp), Rebeca Rusu/ Antonia Corchiș (Brigitta von Trapp), Anastasia Vicoveanu/ Raisa Boldiș (Marta von Trapp), Anabela Tonț/ Anastasia Feher (Gretl von Trapp).
In addition to the impressive cast, viewers will also be able to see the dancers of the Professional Artistic Ensemble Crișana Ecaterina Hannel, Amalia Dan, Georgeta Fazekaș, Florina Pantea, Daliana Negrean, Mădălina Ilea, Daniel Titi Sandro, Liviu Moldovan, Ciprian Dinicu, Cosmin Cioara, Cristian Seghedi-Haragoș.
The music in the show is performed by the "Sinfonietta Varadinum" band consisting of Georgiana Mircescu (flute), Ioan Pîntea (clarinet), Lorenzo Moroni (horn), Janos Vura (trumpet), Andrea Mirian (guitar), Alex Seretoc (percussion), Flaviu Seretoc (double bass), Florin Avram (violin I), Tibor Kurucz (violin II), Valer Mînecan (viola), Bogdan Cocora (cello) and Varady Henrietta (piano), under the baton of maestro Romeo Rîmbu, permanent conductor of the Oradea State Philharmonic and principal conductor of the New Transylvanian Orchestra, a recognized artist whose skill and dedication have brought him appreciation, being invited to perform concerts in prestigious halls around the world, such as the Seoul Arts Center, the Musikverein in Vienna or the Opera in Rome.
This show is a special project for some of the actors of the Regina Maria Theatre, as they have the opportunity to go on stage with their children, who are part of the cast. Adela Lazar speaks with emotion about the feelings that mark this unique experience: „For me, being the protagonist in the show „The Sound of Music” is a dream come true. […] The fact that I go on stage with some wonderful children and with my little girl is an honor. I admit: I am spoiled! And I am very similar to Maria, the character I play … «A mischievous girl, a clown, a child»…”.
The most sympathetic statements, however, are from the children themselves: "The show "The Sound of Music" is about the search for childhood and love. About how to find and follow your path" (Anastasia Vicoveanu, 10 years old), about "how to do everything out of love (Rebeca Rusu, 11 years old)" and "about how to let joy and song lead our soul" (Gia Cordea, 11 years old).
In addition to the children making their debut on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater, we are happy to announce that we have a new colleague in the acting team of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, Maria Teișanu, a graduate of the Faculty of Theater in Cluj-Napoca, the actress you will see in the role of Liesl von Trapp.
We are waiting for you at a moving family show that paves the way for a magical journey into the realm of childhood and which is already shaping up to be a successful production after the preview was played to a full house.
