Queen Marie Theater Oradea

Actress

Date and place of birth: 15.07.1947, Galati

Studies: University of Bucharest, Faculty of Romanian Language and Literature, Romanian-French specialty

After intensive training with two eminent actors from the Galaţi troupe, Mariana Vasile began acting – as a member of the ensemble – at the Galaţi Theatre (1968-1972), and in 1972 she joined the Oradea State Theatre. During this time, Mariana Vasile also attended the Faculty of Philology – earning her diploma. Brunette, slim, of medium height, with a beautiful, well-toned voice, with a strong temperament, Mariana Vasile began playing small roles, episodic appearances, in which she still confirmed her talent and seriousness, her calling for the acting profession.

She played, in turn, with aplomb and pleasure, roles of little girls or boys, girls or young women. She had a lot of charm in the roles of boys or girls: Georgică ("Geranium in the Window" by VIPopa) or Tommy ("The Little Match Girl" by Angel Cârstea, after HCAndersen), Jane ("Mary Poppins" by Silvia Kerim, after Pamela Travers), Mirela ("An Impossible Girl" by Virgil Stoenescu), Lincoln ("The Phantom with Braces" by Mircea Bereş).

Gradually, she gained the trust of directors, being cast in increasingly important roles: Cassandra ("The Trojan War Will Not Take Place" by Jean Giraudoux), Perdita - the young princess in "The Winter's Tale" by William Shakespeare), Camelia ("The Kidney Stone" by Paul Everac), Madame de Brignoles and Toinin ("Madame Sans-Gêne" by V.Sardou and É.Moreau). Mariana Vasile is one of those very few actresses who played one or two big roles, even main ones, in the same season, followed by episodic or even figurative roles. She always played them with the same dedication, enthusiasm and professional interest: Olguţa ("Who Kills Love" by Petru Vintilă), Ţuţi de la puspitru ("Intertviu" by Ecaterina Oproiu), Louise ("Double Game" by Robert Thomas), Virgin ("Shimbarea la faġġa" by G.M.Zamfirescu), but also A villager ("Snowmen with Masks" by Ion Lucian and Virgil Puicea), The owner's wife ("Micii pharisei" by Dmitris Psatas), A coquette and A nun ("The Seventh Commandment" by Dario Fo), A sabina ("Frumoasele sabine" by Leonid Andreev), The Girl ("Ploşniţa" by Vladimir Mayakovsky).

She collaborated equally well with all the directors, respecting their work, so that the chroniclers noted, over time, a certain professional evolution in her. If we consider that she created a very good role in shows signed by Alexandru Colpacci (Dorina in the memorable show "Tonight is Improvising" by Luigi Pirandello), in Sergiu Savin's shows she created several creations noted by the chronicler and which the actress also remembers with great pleasure: Ana ("The Cursed Village" by Mircea Bradu), The Fairy of the Woods ("Sânziana and Pepelea" by V. Alecsandri), Elena ("The Adventurer" by Emil Braghinski), Madonna Agnola ("The Tricks of Love" by G.M.Cecchi) or the role of Franchina, interpreted with great humor, in the coupé show Aldo Nicolaj: "The Darkness of the Day, the Light of the Night".

Under the careful guidance of director Alexandru Darie, she made several formidable creations, receiving well-deserved appreciation from critics: Dora ("Jolly Joker" by Tudor Popescu), Tereza Salieri ("Amadeus" by Peter Shaffer) or three picturesque roles (Ea, Tanţa and Amalia) in the show "Zece hohote de râs" by Tudor Popescu, Mama ("Săptămâna luminată" by Mihai Săulescu). In Jolly Joker the characters - caricatured, grotesque (and Dora was one of them) - bring a terrifying universe; in "Amadeus" ("unquestionably, one of the peak moments of the theatrical year 1986" - wrote Dinu Kivu), Mariana Vasile played with aplomb, the slightly disillusioned and grumpy wife of the composer Salieri.

She also collaborated admirably with her more experienced colleague, actor Eugen Ţugulea, who entrusted her (and directed) several main roles: the shy bride Inkeri ("The Miraculous Career" by Tauno Yliruusi), Marinceva, a woman in one piece, from the play "Faţă-n faţă" by Dragomir Asenov, or the role of Mother ("Dacă d ragoste nu e..." by Marin Preda). She played the roles of mothers, grandmothers, easy women, whores, nuns, nannies, midwives or aristocrats, princesses or witches, maids or queens (the Queen in "Cinderella" by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm or "Cavemen" by William Saroyan), coquettes, dashing or dubious women, unfaithful wives (Liseta, Severina, Patricia, Elvira, Sonia) in more or less accomplished or valuable performances).

Much has been written about the role of Bunca in the performance – a success from all points of view – “The Fantastic and Sad Story of Candid Érendira and Her Reckless Grandmother” after G.H. Márquez), with critics noting the concentrated and mysterious performance of Mariana Vasile (directed by Ion Sapdaru). Critic Doru Mareş highlights Mariana Vasile, who, “in the final dance, has ‘a moment of excellence’”. Dumitru Chirilă claims that individual performances are subsumed by the team spirit that was seen to emerge victorious. Mariana Vasile had exceptional moments in Domnişoara Cucu (“The Nameless Star” by Mihail Sebastian), a character she outlined with a human face and endowed him not only with curiosity, but also with a little sadness – coming from frustrations and loneliness. About some of the roles that, in the actress's opinion (and those who commented on the performances), were not only challenging scores, but also artistic victories. In addition to the roles mentioned, here are some of them: Emilia in "The Bird Cemetery" by Antonio Gala, Bernarda in "The House of Bernardei Alba" by FGLorca, Mama in "The Misunderstanding" by Albert Camus, Aneta Duduleanu in "The Roosters" by Al. Kiriţescu, Varia in "The Cherry Orchard" by APCehov.

The actress has a hobby that honors her, happily crowning her stage work: she paints icons on wood, and she does it with the same artistic talent, with the same dedication with which she builds her characters.

Open, communicative, welcoming nature, she has many friends in and outside the theater, who visit her, love her and are devoted to her. (Presentation by Elisabeta Pop)
