The story of the pig

by Ion Creanga
Adaptation: Viorica Filipoiu and Veronica Porumbacu
„"The fairy tale "The Pig's Tale" by our great storyteller Ion Creangă, adapted by Veronica Porumbacu and Viorica Filipoiu, gave the Oradea Puppet Theatre, the Romanian section, the opportunity to achieve great success in front of young spectators. The show reflects both an initiative-filled direction and a stylization of the sets, preserving the specificity of the place and the manifestation of the heroes, the picturesque Moldavian, in which the wonderful songs and games in the music of George Enescu resound. […] Rodica Schuller managed to present the character to us with great sensitivity and humor. Santa Claus, who faces the mockery of the entire imperial court, going to the petit for their son "the piglet" - comes to life through the talented interpretation of Simion Tomescu. The emperor, presented and outlined with artistic mastery by Petru Simion, indicates the contradiction between rulers and subjects, and the empress, the proud, selfish and cunning woman, is presented to us with special acting skill by Aurelia Laurian, Mădălina, their daughter, ready to sacrifice herself to save the kingdom, willingly resigned to spend her life in the poor shack of the Granny, loving Gheorghe, miraculously transformed from a pig into a handsome young man, lives with vigor and talent in the interpretation of the actress Maria Mierluţ. Gheorghe and the Piglet delights us with warmth and sensitivity, through the broad humor of the characters.
An interesting appearance, full of puppet grotesque in both handling and interpretation, is that of Baba Hârca's daughter, who comes to life through the talent of Irina Cupe. Other actors such as: loan Moldovan, who successfully approaches several episodic roles: Constantin Miskolczi, Alexandru Perghe and Matilda Vitcu, also contribute to the success of this show, which is firmly registered as an indisputable success of the entire team at the Puppet Theatre. Both the puppets and the simple but suggestive sets by Paul Fux contribute to the valorization of the play's content of ideas. […]” (B. Mitita, Crişana, May 1961)
