“Fiddler on the Roof” at the Iași International Education Festival
The Regina Maria Theatre has the special honor of participating in the International Education Festival FIE Iaşi, 2013 edition, with the show "THE ROOF Fiddler", directed by György Korcsmáros, which will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Student Culture House. This festival develops a new cultural field and places Iaşi among the most creative cities in Europe through a new concept, that of "education, culture and art in the open air" and, above all, "education through entertainment".
The show we will be presenting in Iaşi features a large cast of actors from the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, the Arcadia Troupe and the Crişana Professional Artistic Ensemble, joined by the Jewish band, Hakeshet Klezmer Band, creating the most successful musical in Romania!
Adapted from the story by Shalom Alehem – „Tevye’s Daughters”, „Fiddler on the Roof” is also one of the most successful musicals of all time. The first stage adaptation, at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway, premiered in 1964 and has seen over 3200 performances over the years. The 1971 film adaptation was also crowned with great success with the public and critics.
As a real proof of the quality of this show, we remind you that 22 performances were played to a closed house. At the same time, the show enjoyed numerous participations in festivals, being rewarded with many nominations and distinctions, among which we mention the two nominations at the UNITER Awards Gala 2012 – Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Ioana Dragoş-Gajdo and Best Set Design: Vioara Bara and two awards at the ATELIER International Theatre Festival 2012 – Special Jury Prize: Richard Balint and Best Choreographer Prize: András Loránt.
In Iași we will play alongside some of the most important theaters in the country: Odeon Theater, Bucharest, National Theater Bucharest, "Vasile Alecsandri" National Theater, Iași and "Radu Stanca" National Theater, Sibiu.
