"In full glory!" – the second premiere of 2017 by the Iosif Vulcan Troupe
The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce the second premiere of this year by the Iosif Vulcan Troupe: "In Full Glory!", by Peter Quilter, directed by Cristian Ioan, which will take place on Sunday, February 26, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall of the Regina Maria Theater.
Peter Quilter is an established contemporary British playwright whose plays have been staged in renowned theatres in over 40 countries around the world, including South Africa, Canada and Australia. He has been nominated twice for Olivier Awards (Best New Comedy in 2006 and Best New Play in 2011), and his Broadway debut received three Tony Award nominations.
One of his most appreciated works is "„In full glory!”", a comedy inspired by the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, known in history as the worst opera soloist in the world. The play has been staged and performed on stages in over twenty countries around the world, and recently celebrated its 2000th international performance and over a million ticket sales. It also enjoyed a nomination for the Olivier Awards for Best Comedy in 2006. Savory, dynamic, full of humor and crazy courage, Quilter's comedy now comes to life on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater. Under the directorial guidance of Cristian Ioan, known to the Oradea audience both for directing successful shows and for the period in which he led the Oradea Theater (1993-1994), the story of the worst opera soloist in the world will manage to amuse, but also inspire those who will curiously cross the threshold of the theater and will wait with eagerly awaiting the curtain rise.
Florence Foster Jenkins (Gabriela Codrea) manages, despite her obvious lack of talent and the ironies she sometimes faces, to perform opera concerts with full houses and gain the admiration of some personalities of the time. The peak of her career is marked by a recital on the stage of one of the most prestigious concert halls in New York: Carnegie Hall. Supported by a few people around her (either out of sympathy or interest), helped by the image capital she creates by financing cultural events and by the legacy she squanders without stopping when it comes to music, Florence has become a source of inspiration, a strip of history with comical notes, which continues to fascinate.
The artistic team is completed by the set designer Clara Labancz, winner of the UNITER award for her entire activity in 2015, who is in her second collaboration with the Oradea theater, and by the talented actors: Gabriela Codrea (Florence Foster Jenkins), Andrian Locovei (Cosme McMoon), Răzvan Vicoveanu (St. Claire), Mirela Lupu (Mrs. Johnson), Lucia Rogoz (Dorothy) and Georgia Căprărin (Maria). The show enjoys the special participation of the countertenor Iosif Viktor and the musical guidance of the composer Ovidiu Iloc and the pianist Henrietta Varady.
Those who cannot make it to the premiere are welcome to the next performance, which will take place on March 1st: Wednesday, March 1, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.
Tickets are on sale at the Theatre Ticket Agency from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 and 19:00, and on weekends between 10:00 and 13:00.
