BOOK LAUNCH – MIRCEA DIACONU IN ORADEA
Friday, March 28, 2014, Mircea Diaconu will be present in Oradea to promote the novel When winter comes to us, recently published, in a revised edition, in the "Fiction Ltd." collection of Polirom Publishing House, also available in digital edition.
Actor and writer Mircea Diaconu embarked on a tour to promote this volume, meeting with readers and holding public readings in Bucharest, Brăila, Braşov, Gura Humorului, Iaşi, Piatra Neamt, Cluj, Oradea.
Seen through the eyes of a child, life seems more beautiful. And if the kid living in a village during the haunting decade becomes the narrator-character of a novel, the tragedy of the era is canceled out by the comic situations created by the naivety of his perspective.
The thrill of first love for a little girl next door blossoms among imaginary castles and adventures in nature, the place where she lives is a corner of paradise, and small things, like new pajamas, baggy "adult" pants, or fondant candies, are the greatest joys of life.
Everything changes, however, when the father is framed for a crime, and the little boy, his older brother, and their mother become undesirable persons. Which does not prevent the protagonist from showing a courage and a spirit of sacrifice that would do honor to an adult.
A novel with uncles and aunts, with grandparents and neighbors – some protective angels, others demons with human faces – in which an innocent soul shows us that the good in people can triumph even in the darkest times.
Mircea Diaconu (born December 24, 1949) is an actor, politician, writer and professor at the "Ion Luca Caragiale" National University of Theatre and Cinematography in Bucharest. He was the director of the "Nottara" Theatre until 2011. He has acted in plays on national stages as well as in famous film productions, such as De ce trag clopotele, Mitică?, Buletin de București, Asfalt Tango, Cum mi-am sperțat fifșritul lumii, Legături bolnăvicioase or Filantropica.
He also published: Şugubina (1977), The Actor's Canvas Chair (1985) and In Old Bucharest with Mircea Diaconu (1998).
Şugubina, a volume of short stories, is currently being published by Polirom Publishing House, in the "Fiction Ltd." collection.„

On the 50th anniversary of the first theater festival in Oradea – Short Theatre Week, the Regina Maria Theatre announces the selection of the 10th edition of the Oradea International Theatre Festival (FITO), financed by the Bihor County Council, which will take place between 11–20 September 2026. This year's anniversary edition brings to the fore a broad and diverse program, built around the two already established sections: the 28th edition of the Short Theatre Festival and the 6th edition of the Arcadia Children's Theatre Festival, which resumes after an 8-year break. The program of performances will be supported by a series of other events that will transform FITO into a meeting place between artists, professionals in the field of performing arts and the public.
