National premiere at the Regina Maria Theatre: CHOKING (DIARY OF A CHRONIC SUICIDE)
The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce the national premiere of the show „"Suffocation (Diary of a Chronic Suicidal Man)"”, dramatization by Ovidiu Caița after "Suffocation" by Chuck Palahniuk, directed by Ovidiu Caița.
The premiere will take place on Sunday, January 21, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall, with the audience on stage and it will be performed behind closed doors, with limited seating (80) and no additional seats available. Also, for the next two performances, which went on sale with the publication of the January program, all seats are reserved. Those who want to see the show and have not yet managed to purchase tickets have the opportunity to choose one of the performances scheduled for February 6 and 7.
The author of the play "Suffocation", Chuck Palahniuk, is an American journalist and novelist whose success is closely linked to his satirical style of approaching taboo topics. He manages to create pamphlet-type works, steeped in black humor, which he builds starting from some of the most acute spiritual, philosophical or existential dysfunctions of people in today's society. He is best known for the novel "Fight Club" with which he debuted in 1996 and whose film adaptation was a resounding success. Being specialized in creating anti-heroes (schizophrenics, con artists, misanthropes, people suffering from deviant sexual behavior, drug addicts, cynics, etc.), the author models the main character of the novel "Suffocation" according to the same template. We have Victor Mancini, a sex addict, who becomes an ingenious conman when he finds himself forced to earn more money to support his sick mother who is in a sanatorium.
The original text is translated into Romanian by Mihai Chirilov, and the dramatization is made by director Ovidiu Caița. The subtitle "Diary of a Chronic Suicidal Man" is inspired by an editorial written by Chuck Palahniuk: "„Live as if you were going to die.”", which had a strong impact among readers.
The stage direction of the show also belongs to the director from Sălţa, who is not in our city for the first time, having already managed to capture the attention of the Oradea audience with the two shows staged on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater: "Biloxi Blues" (2011) and "Seara de ajun" (2015), both awarded in the Competition section of the Oradea International Theater Festival (FITO).
The show's set design is created by Oradea-based set designer Oana Cernea, who meets director Ovidiu Caița again in this formula after they worked together on the production of the show "Seara de ajun" and other shows staged at other theaters in the country.
The team is completed by Andrei Raicu, who is responsible for the sound design and original music and is in his first collaboration with the Regin Maria Theater, and by Lucian Moga, who is responsible for the light design.
The cast includes the following actors: Richard Balint, Alin Stanciu, Eugen Neag, Corina Cernea, Anda Tămășanu, Georgia Căprărin, Denisa Vlad, Mirela Nita Lupu, Adela Lazar, Pavel Sîrghi, Lucia Rogoz, Răzvan Vicoveanu, Șerban Borda, Sorin Ionescu, Ciprian Ciuciu.
The show is not recommended for people under 16 years of age!
