The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce the new premiere that will take place on March 31st – "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", adapted by Dale Wasserman (based on the novel by Ken Kesey), under the artistic direction of Marius Oltean.

Published in 1962, the famous novel by American writer Ken Kesey enjoyed fantastic popularity around the world, forming the basis of the film awarded with 5 Oscars (1975, directed by Milos Forman, with Jack Nicholson) and the Broadway play, adapted by Dale Wasserman.

Randle Patrick McMurphy, a repeat offender serving a short prison sentence, is transferred to a mental hospital for testing (hoping to avoid prison and spend the rest of his sentence in a more supportive environment). He is known for his history of trouble with the law, but shows no signs of mental illness.

At the hospital, McMurphy has to deal with Nurse Ratched, a seemingly calm and benevolent person who turns out to be a real tyrant. She subjects her patients to countless humiliations through the group therapies she organizes. McMurphy learns that most of the patients are afraid of Nurse Ratched and that they try more not to make mistakes in front of her than to get better. McMurphy befriends the patients Billy Bibbit – a troubled young man, "Chief" Bromden – a silent and 2 m tall Indian, Charles Cheswick, Martini and Dale Harding – a very well-educated patient. Believed by all the patients and hospital staff to be deaf and mute, the Chief is ignored by everyone but is respected due to his impressive stature.

At first, McMurphy tests Nurse Ratched's patience for fun, essentially trying to make her lose her authority over him and the other patients. Ratched refuses to have McMurphy transferred to another hospital, convinced that she can handle him. McMurphy plays poker and bets with the other patients, while also entertaining them with his antics.

The cast includes the following actors: Richard Balint, Ioana Dragoş Gajdo, Ciprian Ciuciu, Petre Ghimbăşan, Pavel Sîrghi, Sebastian Lupu, Ion Abrudan, Ion Ruscut, Eugen Ţugulea, Anca Sigmirean, Alina Leonte, Mihaela Gherdan, Sorin Ionescu, George Voinese, Andrian Locovei and Alexandru Rusu.
