The Iosif Vulcan troupe of the Regina Maria Theater announces the premiere of the show "Năpasta" by Ion Luca Caragiale, directed by Denisa Irina Vlad, which will take place on Wednesday, October 22, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

IL Caragiale knew all the abysses and struggles of theatrical life: he took Costache Caragiale's declamation and mimicry course, was a prompter and role copyist at the National Theater, made translations, was an improvised actor, stage manager, director of the National Theater in Bucharest and playwright, one of the greatest that Romanian literature would ever know.

„"Năpasta" is the only play written by Ion Luca Caragiale in the tragic register, a creation that has aroused a polarized critical reception over time. Some challenged the text, going so far as to make accusations of plagiarism, later refuted in the famous "Caion trial", while others supported the dramaturgical value of the play and the authenticity of its characters. What is certain is that "Năpasta" continued to challenge and inspire directors, including those trained in the tradition of Caragiale's comedy, who wanted to explore the other dimension of Caragiale's universe: the undisguised tragic.

The tragedy in the opera "The Scourge" manifests itself on several levels. On the one hand, there is the individual evil, born of a passionate crime that irreversibly marks the fate of the characters: an innocent man is crushed by injustice, a woman is caught in a whirlwind of revenge that she carries out at all costs, a criminal is consumed by guilt and hatred of his wife, and a man ends up sacrificing his dignity for an illegitimate love. On the other hand, there is the social evil, embodied by a blind justice, which not only punishes an innocent and destroys him irretrievably, but also allows the restoration of justice to take place according to the logic of the law of revenge. And last but not least, the universal one, which defines a lying and cruel world, always gloomy and tense, in which everyone becomes a prisoner of their own drama and no one can escape.

The tense atmosphere is maintained in the Oradea production, but the show brings a more humanistic perspective, which emphasizes nuances, the complexity of feelings and situations.

„"Life is not reduced to the contrasts between black and white, but is infinitely more nuanced. We all have a trace of conscience, a trace of goodness; no one is deeply good or deeply evil. I would like this truth to emerge from the show"”, confesses Denisa Irina Vlad.

The direction of the show is signed by the actress Denisa Irina Vlad, who complements her stage talent with her inclination towards directing, preferring realistic texts, with complex characters and deep messages. The set and costumes are made by Oana Cernea, set designer of the Regina Maria Theater, an artist with a wide range of visual concerns, awarded with awards for puppet theater set design and appreciated for her creations in dramatic theater. The original music of the show is created by Ionuț Chiș, member of the Oradea State Philharmonic, active in the symphony orchestra and chamber ensembles, involved in numerous musical projects and interdisciplinary performances.

The cast of the show includes actors Sorin Ionescu (Dragomir), Anda Tămășanu (who will play the role of Anca in a double role with Denisa Irina Vlad), David Constantinescu (Gheorghe) and Petre Ghimbășan (Ion).
