Press release ǀ Premiere Arcadia Troupe: "The Little Boy Who Could Bite His Nose"
The Arcadia troupe of the Regina Maria Theatre invites you on Friday, July 9, from 7:00 PM and Saturday, July 10, from 10:00 AM, to Orășelul Copiilor, to enjoy the outdoor summer premiere of the show "The Boy Who Could Bite His Nose", by Alex Moldovan, a show by Selma Dragoș (director) and Smaranda Găbudeanu (choreography).
Alex Moldovan is a translator and author of children's books. The success he enjoys as a writer is also proven by the fact that some of his texts are already studied in middle school. "The Boy Who Could Bite His Nose" is the second book he has signed, and is also his first illustrated album. As a playwright, he debuted with the Arcadia Troupe project "The Boy Who Could Bite His Nose", which starts from the idea of the book of the same name. The text was dramatized especially for this project, being a world and exclusive premiere.
The show, staged by Selma Dragoș, who directs, and Smaranda Găbudeanu, who choreographs, proposes a "reversed" perspective compared to other children's productions, because this time the parents are the ones who must ultimately learn the lessons.
The story explores the contrast between two different worlds: that of the parents, who despite always being well-intentioned, become far too preoccupied with their own conceptions of what the child should be like and involuntarily neglect the child's wishes. This aspect applies, by extrapolation, to all adults, who in the text are also illustrated by a doctor, a journalist, an influencer, a few nosy neighbors, in addition to the two parents. The world of adults is superficial and quite rigid, and from up there, from their height, they no longer manage to observe details, emotions and the entire fascinating and playful universe of the child.
The distance that appears between adults and children is perfectly captured by the giant mechanical puppets, created by Răzvan Chendrean in the theater's workshops. They are about 2.5 meters high and propose a unique creative technique, which has been very little explored in Romania. The giant puppets have only a few defining gestures, otherwise being rigid, which exactly illustrates this idea of the psychological inflexibility of adults, which leads to the emotional neglect of the child.
At the same time, another world is born on stage, that of the child, which is full of fantasy. The dolls he plays with have normal proportions and, even if they are built in a naive technique, are extraordinarily cute. The small dolls, but also the set and costumes are the creation of the set designer Oana Cernea.
The original music is by Văzduh (Adi Cimpoeșu), who also collaborated with Arcadia Troupe on the show "Mult aer pentru nimic". We would also like to thank Louis L'Étourneau for his contribution to the orchestration of "A Child is a Man".
The cast includes the following actors: Florian Silaghi (The Child - Vlad), Zentania Lupșe (the mother), Alexandru Pop (the father), Andrei Fazecaș (the doctor and the mayor), Armanca Serac (the journalist) and Igor Lungu (the Influencer).
"The Boy Who Could Bit His Nose", in addition to the exclusive premiere and the novelty that the mechanical puppets bring, is also the first show created specifically to be performed outdoors by the Arcadia Troupe. The next performance of the show is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, at 7:00 PM, also in Orășelul Copiilor.
Tickets can be purchased from the Theatre Agency (Tuesday-Friday: 3:00 PM-7:00 PM), online on Eventim.ro or starting one hour before the show in Orășelul Copiilor. Being an outdoor show, in order to participate, spectators must meet one of four access conditions: vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus (+10 days from completing the full vaccination schedule), negative result of an RT-PCR test no older than 72 hours, certified negative result of a rapid antigen test no older than 24 hours or certificate attesting that they are between the 15th and 90th day following confirmation of infection with SARS-CoV-2. Minors are exempt from presenting this medical evidence. Wearing a mask remains mandatory for all participants, except for minors under 5 years of age.
We look forward to seeing you!
