Registrations open for the 26th edition of the Short Theatre Festival | 2022

The "Regina Maria" Theater in Oradea announces the start of registration for the 26th edition of the Short Theater Festival. The event, unique in the Romanian theatrical landscape, will take place between June 12 and 19, 2022.

SHORT THEATRE FESTIVAL – COMPETITION SECTION
edition26th edition, Oradea (June 9-19, 2022)

  1. BRIEF HISTORY

The Short Play Festival, the only festival dedicated to the one-act play in Romania, is a cultural event with a longevity equaled by few festivals in the country – the first edition took place in 1976. Since 1984, from the 6th edition, the Short Play Festival has become international.

The people of Oradea have watched performances from Hungary, Italy, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Moldova, and even from faraway Japan. Over time, important guests – actors, directors, dancers, set designers, theater critics, festival directors, as well as prominent personalities of Romanian cultural life – have participated in the Oradea cultural event.

The festival has managed to impose a trend among valuable directors, encouraging them to increasingly stage short plays, significantly contributing to the consecration of this unique theatrical genre – the short theater show (a show of maximum 90 minutes and without an intermission). Today, there is no theater from whose repertoire the short theater play is missing. Moreover, by its economy of time, space and energy, this genre seems to be the ideal theatrical option for contemporaneity, all the more so as this artistic form is increasingly known and appreciated by the public.

Purpose The purpose of this festival is to create a space for reflection on the theatrical act, to stimulate contemporary creation by representing short plays, to facilitate public access to the cultural act by capitalizing on unconventional performance spaces, and to support and promote young artists in the theatrical field.

Since 2013, the Short Theatre Festival has become part of the Oradea International Theatre Festival.
