Dramatization by Ana Ripka-Rus, based on the stories of Queen Maria of Romania
When I was asked to write a play inspired by the stories of Queen Maria of Romania, I didn't think too much about it. I picked up the book and started reading. I was convinced that it would be the same as other stories, written by other authors. A presentation of the world and characters of the story, the plot, the resolution of the plot, the conclusion, etc.
But no, Queen Maria's stories are completely different. They are more static, descriptive. Even the characters tell stories and go into detail. They rarely act or move, giving dynamics to the stories. And even so, Queen Maria of Romania's stories can be dramatized. Only one problem arises in the case of a staging: it would not attract children to the theater. Children want to see colorful events that unfold dynamically and with characters they can identify with. Therefore, I decided to dramatize Queen Maria of Romania's stories, bringing them up to date, while fully respecting the story's thread and its educational and moralizing side.
You can find out how different my dramatization is from the stories of Queen Maria by reading the book The Stories of Queen Maria of Romania.
And anyway… read another book! (Ana Ripka-Rus)
