Arcadia band prepares new projects for the new year
At the beginning of March, for three days, the actors of the Arcadia Troupe participated in a large and applied workshop on the Bunraku-type articulated puppet, held by Prof. Univ. Dr. Ciprian Huțanu, one of the most appreciated contemporary Romanian puppet artists.
Between February 29 and March 2, the Arcadia Theater became a space for innovation, creativity and development. During the workshop "Decomposition of stage movement through animated objects", puppeteers perfected their known techniques, but also acquired new handling skills, under the careful coordination of Ciprian Huțanu, who returns to Oradea after creating a successful project on the Arcadia Hall stage, the show "The Bremen Town Musicians".
Through the workshop dedicated to puppetry and Bunraku handling techniques, he aimed to perfect the actors' body coordination and refine their movements in handling the puppet, thus preparing the ground for a new project that he will carry out with them this year.
The reason he chose the Japanese Bunraku puppet is its construction, which manages to almost completely mirror the human mobility mechanisms. And in order to be able to handle it as professionally as possible, three people are needed.
Starting from the classical style of Japanese technique, the technique that the Arcadia Troupe actors learned is adapted so that one person manipulates the torso and head, which has a movable neck (unlike a traditional Bunraku doll), the second person manipulates the hands, and the third person manipulates the legs from a bent position.
In order to succeed in creating a believable character, all three puppeteers need to harmonize with the goal of achieving an almost perfect symbiosis.
„"The puppet's movements must be deciphered, planned, controlled. Behind some movements that are seen as natural in the hall, there are hours of rehearsal and total coordination between the puppeteers," says Ciprian Huțanu.
The feedback from the puppeteers at the end of the workshop was positive, and the enthusiasm to start the new project is shared by the entire Regina Maria Theater team.
Until then, young and old spectators from Bihor County can enjoy the performances of the Arcadia Troupe both at home and on the road.
