WHO AM I VOTING FOR?

"We are all playing, whether we want to or not, whether we know it or not, in a great political comedy. And it would be a pure comedy if it were not, at bottom, a tragicomedy – (in)human."

It has been said and continues to be said about Romania that it is the last country in the world. And for many, this statement gives them a cynical (and sterile) satisfaction. I am one of those who say that it is impossible for some of us not to feel pain. And I want to share this fact, to let it be known.

„"Cyrano de Bergerac" is a five-act play written almost entirely in alexandrine, following the traditions of romantic theater in form and style. Cyrano is a rebellious musketeer in love with his cousin, Roxane. Complexed by his enormous nose, he does not dare to reveal his feelings or court her and, out of desperation, agrees to protect his rival, Cristian, with whom Roxane is in love. Moreover, Cyrano even helps him seduce Roxane through passionate declarations and letters. Gradually, however, Cristian realizes that Roxane does not love him, but the spirit and intelligence that Cyrano demonstrates in his letters. When the two decide to reveal everything, Cristian is killed in battle, and Cyrano decides to remain silent. Fifteen years later, while living in seclusion in a monastery, Roxane understands everything. But it is too late, as Cyrano, wounded, dies in her arms.

Presented as a co-production of the Romanian and Hungarian sections of the Oradea State Theatre, "Cyrano de Bergerac" was a success both in terms of outlining the historical atmosphere and in terms of portraying the heroism of the sword and cape, as well as in terms of the characters' character, bearers of ever-present values.
