Our heart

Three-act play by Valeriu Luca

Artistic direction: Corneliu Zdrehuş
Scenography: Francis Demeny
Premiere date: May 16, 1956

The play "Our Heart" is about the socialist transformation of the Romanian village; the action takes place in a village in Moldova, in the house of the peasant Grigore Hîncu, a space of fierce personal confrontations unfolding against the backdrop of unprecedented historical changes. Against the will of the family, Grigore Hîncu marries his daughter Ioana to Costea, the son of a peasant. Deceived by illusory well-being and loving Costea, Ioana marries without appreciating the love that Voicu, a young foreman from the newly established collective farm, bears her. Grigore Hîncu's family gradually falls apart. Costea proves to be a harsh, brutal, heartless husband. At the cost of great suffering and seeing the abundance and joy of the collective farmers, the father and daughter realize that this is the new direction to follow.
