A pilot project in Romania – "Contemporary Theatre in Classrooms"

The Arcadia troupe of the Regina Maria Theater joined the project "Contemporary Theatre in Classrooms", launched by the Romanian Association for the Promotion of Performing Arts (ARPAS), in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Bucharest and with the agency Henschel from Berlin, co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration.

The project's mission is to implement a new theater format, widespread in the German space, in five children's and youth theaters in Romania: Classroom pieces, shows specially designed to be performed in classrooms. In Romania, the project is a pilot one, this type of show has not been performed before.

The five theaters in Transylvania participating are Oradea – Regina Maria Theater – The band "Arcadia"”", Alba Iulia - "Prichindel" Puppet Theater„, Târgu-Mureș – "Ariel" Theater”", Brasov – "Arlechino" Theater”"and Sibiu – GONG Theatre.

The performances included in "Contemporary Theatre in Classrooms" are based on contemporary German plays for children and adolescents, aged between 6 and 14, which were selected and translated from German by Elise Wilk and Ciprian Marinescu.

The text staged by the "Arcadia Troupe" within this project is called "Don't the Stars Go to School?" and was written by Carsten Brandau. The direction is signed by Bianca Oprea, a third-year student at the National University of Theatre and Cinematography IL Caragiale, in Bucharest, who previously held an online workshop with the playwright to prepare for this show. The cast of the show is made up of actors David Constantinescu and Carina Bunea.

The premiere took place today, May 17, at the "Mihai Eminescu" National College, and the next two performances will take place at the Nicolae Bălcescu Middle School and the "Iosif Vulcan" National College.
