SECOND PREMIERE OF APRIL AT THE REGINA MARIA THEATRE "IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE LEAR EPISODE"
The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce a new premiere in April: "IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE LEAR EPISODE"", a script by Gavriil Pinte, with inserts by George Banu and Monique Borie, based on William Shakespeare, which enjoys the directorial signature of Gavriil Pinte and the scenographic signature of Roxana Ionescu.
Gabriel Pinte is in its third collaboration with the Regina Maria Theater. The first show staged on the Oradea stage is „"Those who don't forget..."” in 2013, a disturbing show, which makes a significant contribution to the resurrection of the tragic memory of the suffering experienced by people who died in communist prisons. The next show performed in Oradea is "„In the Heart of the Night – Episode Hamlet” in the 2014-2015 season, a community project about the magical power of theater in a public space that is both open and closed at the same time and about the certainties and uncertainties of the illuminated night, which is part of a larger cycle entitled "„IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHTÞ"II"” and it starts from Shakespearean plays.
„"IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE LEAR EPISODE"” is the second show in this cycle and has as its textual support the play "KING LEAR". It starts from the subject of the Shakespearean text, namely a king who wishes to abdicate and divide his kingdom among his three daughters, but before making any decision he asks them to express their love for her. Following the evidence of affection, he decides to banish his youngest daughter for the sincerity and naturalness of her confession, only to be later repudiated by his older daughters and, with his mind troubled by suffering, to wander at random. But around the subject a show is built about the night of the mind, the night of wanderings, about a world that moves away from reason and love and settles in territories crossed by hatred, violence, conspiracy, exile, alienation, crime, in order to finally fervently seek, at the end of the night, the path to light.
The show will be performed on the Mobile Stage, which will be located mainly in heritage spaces, such as the Oradea Citadel, and also proposes an interdisciplinary dialogue between theater and visual arts, so that exhibitions of young local artists will take place around the stage.
The project is financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, a public institution subordinate to the Ministry of Culture, which offers non-refundable funding every year to institutions carrying out cultural activities, co-financed by the Oradea City Hall and enjoys the support of the Department of Visual Arts of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Oradea.
The importance of such a cultural project is also attested by the invitation to participate in one of the most prestigious festivals taking place in Romania: the "INTERNATIONAL SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL" in Craiova, which this year reached its 10th anniversary edition. The festival will take place between April 14-26, in several cities in the country, such as Craiova, Bucharest, Târgu Jiu, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Drobeta – Turnu Severin, joining the ranks of events dedicated to marking the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. This edition will feature famous theaters from the world cultural space, including the Saytama Theater in Tokyo, the Schaubuhne Theater in Berlin, the Baltic House Theatre Festival, the Shakespeare Tobacco Factory Theater in Great Britain, the Worcester Repertory Company, the Flute Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Municipal Theater in Beer Sheva, the „Sfumato” Laboratory Theater in Sofia, the A & M Production Company in South Africa. Romania will be represented by the “Marin Sorescu” National Theater in Craiova, the Gong Puppet Theater in Sibiu, the Metropolis Theater in Bucharest and the Oradea State Theater.
„"IN THE HEART OF THE NIGHT – THE LEAR EPISODE"” will have two performances, the first in Târgu Jiu, on April 20, at 8:30 PM, in the BRÂNCUȘI ARCHITECTURAL COMPLEX and the second in Craiova, on April 22, at 9:30 PM, in MIHAI VITEAZUL SQUARE.
