THE SONG OF OUR PASSION | Premiere

THE SONG OF OUR PASSION
recital on verses by Octavian Goga, performed by actor Eugen Țugulea on the occasion of International Poetry Day

The Regina Maria Theater invites you on Sunday, March 21, from 7:00 PM, at the Arcadia Hall, to the recital performance on verses by Octavian Goga: "The Song of Our Passion", organized on the occasion of International Poetry Day. The recital will be given by actor Eugen Țugulea, laureate of the UNITER Awards Gala in 2016 with Special Award for a Life Dedicated to Theater and Poetry.

The choice of a Transylvanian poet, and in particular Octavian Goga, is not at all accidental and has both a historical and a personal motivation. First of all, this year marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of the poet Octavian Goga (April 1, 1881), and the date on which the recital will take place is very close to its anniversary, thus marking, in addition to celebrating International Poetry Day through a tribute to a valuable Romanian poet, this event as well.

Secondly, Eugen Țugulea confesses that he feels he has a debt to Transylvanian poetry because "although I have been here for decades and have taken root in this place, I have recited poems written by authors from all the historical provinces of Romania, but never, in public at least, poems written by any Transylvanian poet."

The choice of Goga in particular also has a soulful motivation: in the 1940s-1945s, he heard a colleague recite a poem dedicated to Octavian Goga that deeply impressed him and which he immediately learned, although he had never recited it in public before. What is certain is that this event opened the way for him to discover the lyrical universe of the Transylvanian poet.

Regarding the choice of lyrical creations from Goga's quite rich work, Eugen Țugulea says that: "I was subjective in choosing the poems that I will recite. I extracted from Octavian Goga's work what I understood and liked from an aesthetic point of view, but primarily emotionally, because a recital of twenty poems cannot encompass all the values and ideas of an important poet. Thus, I chose this subjective perspective, which also represents the author, but also represents me in the way I view the author. I did not limit myself to his emblematic poems, which, indeed, give him added value, because they are only part of the dimension of the author's consciousness. I believe that someone who wants to express a poet cannot choose only what is representative of him, because that would mean that you are only interested in the top element, or not only this aspect represents a personality, no matter who it may be. What am I good at or less "Well, a flaw of mine, or a quality of mine does not represent me in its entirety, but a summum of qualities and defects. I look at a poet's work in the same way when I choose poems for a recital. I try to create an internal structure, like a kind of story of that author, with a beginning and an end."

Tickets for the recital can be purchased either online, on the Eventim.ro website, or at the Theatre Agency, open from Wednesday to Friday between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM and on Saturday and Sunday between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

We look forward to seeing you at the theater!
