The courage of an authentic Caragiale – "Carnival's Day" at the Regina Maria Theater

The theater is often tempted to tame and adapt the classics, and the Regina Maria Theater, together with director Vlad Trifaș, takes on the courage to stage a Authentic Caragiale, which pulsates with the energy of the southern slum, where passions burst forth "fast forward", and the grotesque and humor naturally follow each other. For the Transylvanian audience, this incursion into the Caragiale universe acquires the force of a revelation: a lively, intense show, which refuses cosmeticization and brings to the surface both the fragility and the vitality of human typologies.

CARNIVAL DAYS

"Carnival's" brings to the stage Caragiale's unmistakable comedy, full of consuming passions, delicious intrigues and absurd situations. The hairdresser Nae Girimea juggles between Mița Baston and Didina Mazu, while their partners, Pampon and Crăcănel, jealous and ridiculous rivals, launch themselves into a veritable hunt for "Bibici". The love entanglements mix with gossip and small intrigues, so that everything culminates in a masked ball, where the absurdity and humor of the mistakes already triggered reach their peak.

His directorial vision Vlad Trifas but it goes beyond the simple comedy of situations and love entanglements. It brings to the fore the depth of the characters, through settings and interpretations that evoke an accentuated Balkan universe, which naturally merges with the irony and humor of Caragiale. The noblest feelings collide with the raw impulses of the slum, reason is suspended, and the characters abandon themselves to an unbridled pathos, which only people with an unbridled appetite for life can manifest with such naturalness.

The staging of the show D'ale carnavalului was born in a laboratory state, where the entire team explored Caragiale's deeply human humor. His typologies do not belong only to the past, but breathe around us, people who burn at high temperatures, ready to explode at any moment, because their world – like ours – always operates on the edge.
Carnival becomes the metaphor for this tense universe, where masks, appearances and intentional confusions create a permanent danger of explosion. The laughter that the show proposes is not only comical, but necessary: a mechanism of liberation and recognition in a reality where human fragility and ridicule inevitably coexist.

THE ANONYMOUS VENETIAN

The story imagined by Giuseppe Berto is inspired by Concerto for oboe and string orchestra in D minor by the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello, long erroneously attributed to Antonio Vivaldi and then to Benedetto Marcello, and is a romantic drama, which is consumed under the mysterious and thanatic patronage of Venice. The plot is focused on the confrontation of emotions, memories, reproaches and desires of two characters, a He and a She, who meet again after a long time on the platform of a train station in Venice and gradually discover, that despite the suffering they have caused each other, love has not died. But time is against them.

In the cast, you will be able to see again the actors Sebastian Lupu and Mirela Niță Lupu playing together, who give even greater depth to the characters, bringing in addition to their acting contribution, which for building such penetrating roles require stage maturity and depth, also that of life, as they are in turn a couple in everyday life. At the same time, the choice of this text was not at all accidental and marks, somewhat in a mirror, the celebration of 25 years of career on the Oradea theater stage.

With: Sebastian Lupu and Mirela Nita Lupu

Artistic director: Elvira Rîmbu
Scenography: Oana Cernea

Video: Ionuț Jarca
Make-up: Miruna Chipurici

Premiere date: March 3, 2022

Show duration: 1 hour 40 min.

Tartuffe

"Monsters don't exist unless we create them! We need people to believe in them."

The show is an adaptation, the text being brought up to the speed of information transfer we use now. Only one character has retained his pedantry, only he is aware of this and refuses to simplify, because he believes that the power of the word has beauty.
