THEATRE and EDUCATION (2020)

In the coming period, the Regina Maria Theater aims to continue the "Theater and Education" project, through which it aims to achieve three main objectives: dynamizing school readings/projects through theatrical performance, the opportunity to get to know actors and what their profession entails, and a practical introduction to the world of theater, through applied theater exercises, which can significantly contribute both to the concretization of a vision about the actor's work and to personal development.

Our proposals are as follows:

  1. Support materials for Romanian language and literature classes. At the request of teachers, actors can record materials that complement the information taught in class, whether it is about reading a text or a fragment of a text, or whether it is about information, additions to the course material.
  1. Online meeting with favorite actors during guidance classes. During guidance or counseling classes, students' favorite actors can go live on Zoom or Facebook to have a discussion about theater, acting as a profession; a kind of career day, but with more personal, funnier notes. This way, students have the opportunity to get to know the actors in a way other than on stage.
  1. Exercises in diction, intonation, etc. Also, using the same online platforms, theater courses can be held that contribute to the personal development of students, including exercises in diction, public speaking, concentration, warm-up games, etc.

All these activities proposed by the Regina Maria Theater can only be carried out in direct collaboration with the teachers, whom we invite once again, by virtue of the good collaborations in the past, to interdisciplinary dialogue. For more details about the project, please write to us at the following e-mail address: [email protected]

Hats off!

In November we reward loyalty

We are rapidly approaching the month of gifts and we want to turn our attention to the viewers who have been with us during this period, when our meeting at the theater, as we used to, is not possible.

The November program will be adapted to the current provisions from the authorities. Thus, according to decision no. 41/26.10.2020, issued by the County Committee for Emergency Situations of Bihor County, due to the fact that the incidence of 3/1000 inhabitants has been exceeded and Oradea is still in the red scenario, the shows are suspended and will be able to resume only after the restrictions are lifted.

Until then, we take a short trip to the virtual world and invite those who supported us during the pandemic, either by purchasing tickets to our productions or by reserving seats at this month's performances, to enjoy theater online.

The premieres of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe, "Three Tall Women" and "Inheritance of Luck", are prepared and will be rescheduled as soon as we can resume our activity with the audience in the hall. The shows "Christians", "The Wizard of Oz", "The French Teacher" and "...ESCU" will be broadcast for the time being for the viewers who are part of our database, free of charge, through the Eventim.ro platform. Access will be based on a unique code, which will be sent by e-mail one hour before the show.

Tickets purchased for the shows that are part of the November program remain valid for future performances scheduled in the hall. Those who wish to request a refund are asked to send an e-mail to [email protected].

We thank you all for being with us and we are happy that, together, we manage to share precious moments regardless of the challenges we face.

Let's see each other again soon!

September of stories with the Arcadia Troupe

The Arcadia troupe of the Regina Theatre invites you to celebrate the arrival of autumn with colorful and cheerful characters, who will guide you through magical realms, formidable stories and wonderful adventures. Thus, throughout the entire month, we look forward to welcoming you to embark on numerous adventures together:

Friday – September 4 and Tuesday – September 22, from 11:00, also in the Amphitheater of the Oradea Citadel, we meet with  Hansel and Gretel, adaptation by Hanyecz-Debelka Robert based on an idea by the Brothers Grimm, directed by Szoke Kavinszki Andras. The show is recommended for children over 4 years old!

Friday, September 25, at 8:00 PM, at the Pontonul in Cetății, the premiere of the show will take place „"A Midsummer Night's Dream" - Craftsmen's Scenes, a show for the whole family. Some absolutely ordinary people try to make a theater show based on a script that depicts a love story like the story of Romeo and Juliet. Their unsuccessful attempts are delicious and will surely make the audience laugh. The show is a collective creation, the set design is by Csuri Emese, and the cast includes actors Andrei Fazecaș, Daniela Purcărea, Armanca Serac, Florin Stan and Alexandru Pop. Show recommended for children over 8 years old!

Tickets can be purchased online at Eventim.ro or on site, starting one hour before each performance.

We remind you that the performances will take place in safe conditions, and physical distancing and wearing a mask are mandatory.

We look forward to seeing you!

THE SNAKE IN THE GRASS – Claudiu Groza (Tribuna Magazine)

Text author: Claudiu Groza
Taken from tribuna-magazine.com

Probably any history of theater made during the "pandemic", as it will be called in years to come, will have to record – as a piquancy or relevant element – some of the artistic/technical solutions found by artists for their creations. A surprising variety, as we will soon see.

For his staging of Alan Ayckbourn's The Snake in the Grass at the "Regina Maria" Theatre in Oradea, Sebastian Lupu has resorted to a marking of sanitary convention: the show is performed with strict observance of social distancing. The three actresses play three meters apart, with a discreet but visible minuet of permanent spatial reconfiguration, but the illusion/sensation of their proximity to the point of touching is created through a skillful video montage (Ovi D. Pop). The show has been broadcast on YouTube several times since its premiere, being performed with an empty hall, obviously. The convention is also present as a precise stage sign, through the central circular cordon, with yellow strips on which the code of the new influenza virus is written, much like in the investigations in detective films.

"Author Portrait" Festival – Mircea Morariu (contributors.ro)

Text author: Mircea Morariu
Taken from contributors.ro

The Regina Maria Theater in Oradea officially opened its new season with a recap of the previous theater season's productions and not only (Vinnegar Tom, Genul acustativ and Opera de trei parale were thus able to be seen again), with a premiere or, more correctly, with a complete restoration of a show originally produced in the independent environment (Pâna când moartea ne va desparți), but also with a mini-festival entitled Portret de autor. Dedicated to a highly successful trilogy by a French playwright who is by no means minor. On the contrary. Currently in great demand on Romanian stages. It's about Florian Zeller.

Now, to be fair, the festival was more of a crisis, if not necessarily a rescue, in any case. A prosperous city and county where we are told to the point of oversaturation that everything would run smoothly thanks to someone who is more sunny than Louis XIV and more thirsty for megalomaniac constructions than the Genius of the Carpathians, Oradea and Bihor do not really have, unfortunately, the resources to support the return to life, after the pandemic, of the oldest short theater festival, which over time became FITO. That is, the Oradea International Theater Festival. Other, and not culture, but, at best, subculture, popular manifestations are the priorities of the authorities in whose pen the allocation of funds is. It seems true to the saying How beautiful is our country/Whether Wednesday, or Thursday/There is no such thing as existing/Citizens with sad faces.

Registrations open: DRAMATIC CREATION CONTEST FOR SHORT PLAYS

The Regina Maria Theatre is organizing the SHORT PLAY CREATION CONTEST between July 15 and August 15, 2020, which aims to encourage original Romanian dramaturgy, especially short theater. If until now the contest was part of the Short Theater Festival, this edition is a stand-alone event, and the proposed texts will be read and appreciated by a jury made up exclusively of actors from the Iosif Vulcan Troupe.

The organizers do not suggest a specific theme, leaving freedom of choice to the creators. However, the number of characters will also be part of the evaluation criteria for the plays. Thus, we encourage the submission of plays written for 1, 2 or 3 characters, in a single act, which have a maximum of 25 pages (approximately 50,000 characters without spaces). Dramatizations are not allowed, nor are plays that have already been published or performed. Texts submitted for the competition will not be returned to the authors.

The works will be sent to the address: Teatrul Regina Maria, Piața Ferdinand no. 6, code 410021, Oradea, Bihor county, with the mention: "For the dramatic creation contest - 2020 edition" by August 15, 2020 (postage date). Participants may propose multiple texts, provided that they comply with the above criteria. These must be sent in a single copy, unsigned, and the name and address of the sender will not be mentioned on the parcel. At the same time, a sealed envelope will be inserted in the parcel, which will contain the author's contact details (name, address and telephone number) and a motto that must also appear on the first page of the work, serving as an element of recognition. This envelope will be opened by the jury members only after the winner has been designated.

The results of the competition will be announced by the end of August and the first three texts selected by the jury members will be included in the repertoire of the Regina Maria Theatre, as reading performances, will be posted on the Facebook page and on the Regina Maria Theatre website and sent electronically to all theatres in the country, with special recommendations. This year, no cash prizes are awarded, but following the public vote and the recommendations of the Artistic Council, one of the three finalist texts will form the basis of a performance from the repertoire of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe.

July program – Iosif Vulcan Band

The Regina Maria Theater has prepared a true theatrical feast for the people of Oradea this month as well.

The first show in July is "Christians" which will take place Friday, July 3 from 8:30 PM on the mobile stage located in the Oradea Citadel. On the same day, from 7:00 PM, the spectators who were present at the performance on June 14, which we had to interrupt due to the weather, are expected. The show is not recommended for people under 14 years old!

Saturday, July 4, from 7:00 PM, will take place online premiere of the show "The Snake in the Grass" by Alan Ayckbourn, directed by Sebastian Lupu, a dramatic, electrifying and suspenseful thriller about murder, blackmail and powerful, haunting images. The second performance will also be online, on July 26, from 7:00 p.m.. Tickets can only be purchased online, and the filming will be broadcast on the Regina Maria Theatre's YouTube channel. Spectators will receive the link to the filming of the show by e-mail, half an hour before the broadcast begins.

Thursday, July 9, from 8:00 PM, Oradea Citadel It transforms into a small Italian town whose inhabitants give love without limits. Lovers from Ancona they have adapted to the times, so you will be surprised at how things have changed since you last saw them.

Even though the impenetrable layer of clouds still persists, it's still summer and we miss a concert. Thus, Wednesday, July 15, from 8:00 PM, also in Oradea Fortress, we invite you to the show "Leonce and Lena" – CONCERTThe most likeable hippies will take to the mobile stage, eager to brighten the sky and the hearts of those present with a repertoire of songs composed by Ada Milea.

Sunday, July 19, from 8:00 PM, the show "Hamlet's Trap", by Nedialko Yordanov, directed by Petru Vutcărău, will offer us some images from the lives of the artists at Prince Hamlet's court, and Thursday, July 23, from the same time, amateur soprano Florence Foster Jenkins will also perform on the mobile stage in the Oradea Citadel, "In full glory!", as the viewing public has become accustomed to.

The month of July ends with a performance of the beloved show "Enigmatic Variations", which stars Sebastian Lupu and Petre Ghimbășan, which will take place on the 30th, from 8:30 PM, at the Oradea Citadel.

Due to the fact that the performances take place outdoors, we are subject to weather conditions and may have to interrupt or reschedule performances. Thus, the Regina Maria Theater reserves the right to make changes to the program!

To ensure we are prepared for possible weather surprises, please come prepared with umbrellas and capes.

Tickets can be purchased both online (www.bilete.ro), as well as on site starting one hour before the show.

EXPLOSIVE – February 2020 – Țiț Emanuela (liceuliuliumaniu.ro)

Text author: Prof. Țiț Emanuela
Taken from liceuliuliumaniu.ro

Undoubtedly, this period has made us long for our daily activities. We confess that we miss the theater. Today we write about our last outing to the theater.

„"Explosive" – a play dedicated to young people, teachers, parents. These were the words through which the play was presented to us. Curious, we decided to participate in this performance.

Surprise! We woke up at school again. What does the show Explosive present to us? Enthusiasms and reality. Our soul is a crushed glass of doubts and interrogations. The play is an invitation to stirring dialogues with ourselves. Willingly or unwillingly, during the show we end up asking ourselves sincere questions and, perhaps, even looking for an answer. It is not easy to find the strength to open your soul to those around you, but it is often very important. We are also reminded, through a dramatic episode, how important it is, for us in turn, to pay attention to our loved ones. To listen to them. To strive to perceive reality, to open our eyes wide in order to be able to analyze what is bad and what is good.
